The Connection Between Conductive Education and Occupational Therapy

The Conductive Education setting provides the ideal context for Occupational Therapy service delivery. The emphasis on following a daily routine, where the client is guided to develop skills in planning and executing activities of daily living, is a natural fit for Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention in a natural therapeutic environment. The dynamic group environment supported by Conductive Education philosophies fosters meaningful opportunities for learners to develop social emotional skills and practice social communication among peers.

Individual and group goals at the Movement Centre of Manitoba include the development of: 

  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Body and spatial awareness
  • Self-care skills (eating, dressing, toileting)
  • Cognitive skills such as awareness, attention and concentration
  • Cognitive skills such planning, organizing for instrumental activities of daily living
