The Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a Commemorative Partner of VA250—the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission.
Of the thirteen original colonies, none played a more central role in the founding of our country than Virginia. From the ideas that shaped a new nation to the leadership that guided it forward, Virginia’s influence is woven into every chapter of America’s beginning.
Here in the Mount Vernon and Springfield area, that history is close to home. From George Washington’s Mount Vernon and his working Gristmill, to George Mason’s Gunston Hall where the Virginia Declaration of Rights was written, our community is home to the places where the nation’s foundations were formed. Sites like Fort Belvoir and the National Museum of the U.S. Army continue that legacy of service, while the Workhouse Arts Center and the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial reflect the ongoing expansion of rights and opportunity in America.
As we mark 250 years of independence, this is an opportunity to reconnect with the story of our country in the place that helped make it possible. We invite our members, residents, and visitors to explore these landmarks, participate in local events, and be part of this historic milestone.
