Second Weekend in a Row Getting to Solo game Second Balkan War Battle

Got a chance for the second Sunday in a row to use the new game mat and run the Battle of Dioran, July 6, 1912 from the Second Balkan War.  I did this battle for the first time last Sunday and really had a good time so wanted to try this battle again but perhaps make some different decisions.  Same situation as before but the Greeks set up a little different spread out more attacking more from the Greek left flank with two 3-stand infantry regiments and an artillery stand.

Different Setup with two Greek Regiments trying to come up the hill and outflank Bulgarians with a gun early in the game.

Early on being more willing to move Bulgarians out of reserve early in the game to back up the center.

Went for a more forward defense with the Bulgarians (Germans figures) having them advance out of the rifle pits hitting the Greeks with fire at range.

The battle ended up not going the full number of turns this time as by turn six the Greeks only had a 3-stand infantry unit and two artillery stands left.  Not enough strength for the Greeks to take two objectives to win and frankly not enough to take one objective to get a draw.  So the Bulgarians end up with the win this time around.

Greek troops (french figures) prepare to charge the Bulgarian rifle pits but will they have enough troops.

Differences this time for the Bulgarians:

I moved a unit up and tried to delay the Greeks from getting to the Bulgarian rifle pits.  I fired at long range to try and get stop results to disrupt the Greeks and slow down their movement.  This worked especially against the Greek left flank which the artillery gun was stopped and disordered multiple times never getting into action.  Early in the game I moved troops out of the town of Dioran and did not hold them in reserve but moved them into the center to help hold the center against the attacks there.  I did not fight a lot of assaults as the Bulgarians moved back from the trenches or stopped the Greeks before they reached the rifle pits. Further, I used the artillery with infantry to better affect against the Greeks at range.

Lone Greek unit left on table broke the center and charges gun but is about to get attacked from multiple sides so the game ends.

Things the same this game  for the Bulgarians:

The Raw units even in a trench line are not very strong and take damage even in rifle pits.  The Greek units are stronger in the assault than the Bulgarian units.  The Bulgarian center was largely destroyed by the bayonet attacks of the Greeks.

Differences this game for the Greeks:

Spread the troops around more and attacked across the whole front this time.  Bad rolls led to harder going and slow movement especially for the artillery.  The artillery never fired a shot being out of Line of Sight or disordered the entire game.  The Bulgarians used fire power at range to whittle down many of the Greek units long before they were in range to assault the Bulgarian units with the bayonet.

Things the same for the Greeks:

Greek units still tougher overall in the assault than the Bulgarians.

I have to find a way to get my artillery into the battles.
