Clocks and Photographs

I'm producing stock for the yearly December art show. This year, I'll be making photos with clocks mounted in them. If you have issues with graphic heavy pages, you might want to skip this post.

Numa Numa en Pointe

For my fellow geeks.

The Solo Adventures

You'll want to see the last five seconds.

Pumpkin Sausage Spinach Pasta

I made dinner last night using this recipe. With some advice from Kiwi, I used beef broth instead of chicken, frozen spinach, and deleted the salt. Adjusting to taste just about tripled the pepper. It was very tasty! It's been a while since I cooked purely for fun.

Scrabble Question

If you play Scrabble, then please give me some advice on these modified tiles I'm considering putting into the December art show using as a Yule gift.

Clock Face Poll

I'm considering putting out a few clocks in this year's art show. Do you think any of the following are sufficiently engaging?

Geek Is

Yes, I have done it with a vorpal sword.

Carnival of Spirits

Carnival of Spirits is a quick and entertaining read. Remember, mangas are right to left.

I live ...

... though it doesn't feel much like living. I've had increasing URI symptoms since my flu shot last Tuesday. This morning I had fever chills, but thus far no fever. Alka-Seltzer Cold Plus is my friend.

Diminished Reality

This happens in real time. I would not absolutely trust any video from this point on. The process does seem to have trouble with reflections (see the bathroom mirror).

Practicing my Poll Skills

If I asked you to have sex with me would the answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?

Yes

No thanks, I'm ticked enough already.

Druidry in England

LONDON — The ancient pagan tradition of Druidry has been formally accepted as a religion under charity law in Britain — a decision its followers hailed Saturday as giving long-overdue recognition to the worship of spirits and the natural world.

The Druid Network, a group of about 350 Druids, will receive exemptions from taxes on donations after the semi-governmental Charity Commission granted it the status of a religion charity, just like mainstream religions such as the Church of England.

Leather Masks

Hey firefly67, have you seen these?

Laumeier Sculpture Park

I had a completely unexpected day off today, so we went out to Laumeier for a few hours. I got a good image of Kiwi finding art in places other folks never think to look:

Deviant Art

I've spend most of the last two days populating a Deviant Art store, everything from mugs to stretched canvas. Go take a look!

Nearly RIP

My camera is all but dead. Of late, but particularly last night at the Glow, it needed to be rebooted for format errors about every third shot. There were many folks with cell phone cameras there that had better light gathering capabilities than I did. I'm now officially looking for a Deal™ on a Nikon DSLR with interchangeable lenses. If you know of such a deal, or places to search for one, please let me know.

Female Ninja Magic?

WTF doesn't even begin to describe this. All kinds of NSFW.

ETA: Kiwi is very taken with this. It's now in our Netflix queue.

Science vs Law

"The life of each human being begins at conception," according to Senate Bill 793, which adds new regulations to the state's 24-hour informed consent law for abortions. "Abortion will terminate the life of a separate, unique, living human being."

The bill makes Missouri the second state to adopt such language after a similar provision became law in South Dakota in 2005, and then survived a legal challenge in federal court in 2008.

According to my professional training, after the egg and sperm are joined it descends to the uterus. Once there, attachment to the uterine wall is a 50/50 shot. That means, according to normal human biology, 50% of all conceived human life is spontaneously and naturally aborted. Will this law be interpreted to mean 50% of all woman who have conceived are now guilty of murder?

Another WTF Brassiere

Here is the quintessential WTF. NSFW and just plain strange.

Storing Entanglement

The first quantum memory that stores and releases entanglement has been built by researchers in Switzerland.

Entanglement is the strange, ghostly phenomenon in which quantum particles share the same existence (actually, the same wave function). So a measurement on one instantaneously influences the other, no matter how far apart they might be.

So-called action-at-a-distance lies at the heart of many of modern physic's most dramatic new technologies: quantum cryptography, quantum teleportation and quantum computation all rely on it.

I think this has the possibility of completely changing life as we know it in the same way that the advent of the horseless carriage did.

The work part of my work/play calendar is now up-to-date through the end of October.

600 Hanna-Barbera Characters

How many of these guys do you remember? I think I've seen nearly half from the 50s through the 70s. There are several for which I had no clue there were cartoon versions.

Living in the Future

In the last few years, Eigler’s group has built on his work and constructed custom molecules using the STM. They have also constructed and operated an electrical switch whose only moving part is a single atom.

Eureka and a Question of Physics

I don't watch much television, so I'm a bit behind the times here. We just saw the pilot for the SyFy series Eureka (which will now heavily populate our Netflix queue). One of the main characters in the pilot said that nothing could travel faster than the speed of light. I had thought that nothing could travel at the speed of light. Am I misremembering my physics?

I also have this sneaking suspicion that the dog has not always been a dog.

It's been a while since I've done a meme. browngirl found an interesting one:

NSFW Handbag

This is one of the most blatent NSFW leather handbags I've seen. I know some of you guys are wishing you had one.

ISS Viewing

Last night, under the category of better late than never, I finally saw the space station with my naked eye. It looked like a small planet on a fast independent path through the skies. It was definitely a living in the future moment to know that I could tweet the falling climbing star.
