Land Acknowledgement
The City of Moose Jaw is located within Treaty 4 territory, the original lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakoda and Lakota, and the homeland of Métis Nation. The Nêhiyawak translation of Moose Jaw is môso-tâpiskan and is the shared landscape for Indigenous Peoples and settlers from around the world who call Moose Jaw home. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we are committed to move forward in equal partnerships with Indigenous Nations, with respect, and in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.
“On behalf of City Council, welcome to the City of Moose Jaw’s Indigenous Relations web page. The city is committed to furthering our path to reconciliation, through the 94 Calls to Action and economic reconciliation.
The rich history of Moose Jaw is deeply intertwined with our significant Indigenous origins. We believe that our future potential can only be fully realized through ongoing engagement and partnerships with our First Nations, Inuit, and Métis residents, neighbours, and partners.” – Mayor James Murdock

Indigenous Engagement Framework: Path to Reconciliation
In 2024, after years of listening, taking various forms of educating and conducting thoughtful work in the name of reconciliation, the City of Moose Jaw created the first edition of the City’s Indigenous Engagement Framework.
The City would like to thank all who contributed to this process, especially the First Nation and Métis peoples who helped shape this framework with their knowledge and guidance. To read the framework, click here.
