I was born in San Francisco, and I’ve liked horror, science fiction, comic strips and roleplaying games almost from the beginning. In college while studying writing, I discovered two new favorite things: anime\/manga (mostly manga) and American small-press comics. In 1996 I was hired as an editor at VIZ Media<\/a>, where I edited numerous manga, including the first several issues of the American edition of SHONEN JUMP magazine. In 2006 I left VIZ in order to work on Manga: The Complete Guide<\/a>, the first encyclopedia of manga published in English, and to work for Anime News Network, Otaku USA magazine, WIRED and other publications. In 2010 I moved to Seattle and married my beautiful & brilliant wife, Jumana Al Hashal. In 2014 we moved back to San Francisco.<\/p>\n

In the midst of that I’ve drawn and self-published several comics, contributed stories to many anthologies, created a boardgame<\/a>, and drawn many posters and game illustrations.<\/p>\n
