I had a two and a three player game of Glory to Rome and I much preferred the three player game. The game flows very quickly and you need to know what the buildings do or end up on the wrong end of “rule” that is a complete surprise. In this respect it reminds me of Carl Chudyks other game innovation i.e. rules changing due to a played card. The roles of Patron, Architect, Craftsman, Merchant and legionnaire will all be used during a game and the legionnaire role had the most dramatic effect in the three player game I had the other night. As you can see the following buildings , once completed can change the rules. For example the completed Bar adds “In addition: When performing PATRON action may take a client from DECK”.
In the end it came down to the material bonuses and the tie breaker rule which is who ever had the most cards in their hand when the game ended. I miscalculated and ended giving up the victory when it looked very much like I would win easily. Glory to Rome is a good game and I can see it getting plenty of game time.
I also have some other games coming from Coolstuff namely Mage Wars, Duel of Ages II, Creation and Control for Netrunner and Samurai sword.
I also have been watching lots of GenCon 2013 vlogs and here are some of the ones I thought looked cool. In fact I think I will pre order Firefly asap.
