I got this the other day from the BD. Its a large box (almost the biggest game box I have) and postage would have cost quite a “bit” so the BD was the best deal. It arrived in perfect condition. I arranged the cards and set up the first adventure and gave it a go.

I used 2 characters , Seelah the Paladin and Seoni the sorcerer as per the recommendation from the rules. Its was easy to handle and the scenario flowed smoothly. I had to think about the rules for closing a location a bit but got it sorted on the second reading. The character add deck came a few days later and adds another 4 characters and extra items etc. The base set comes with the first adventure in the Rise of the Runelords adventure thread called the “Burnt Offerings“.

I have read and watched a lot of different reviews and opinions of this game.  I have not really played any RPGs ( apart from a little bit of SJG GURPS maybe) and  I have never played Pathfinder so I have really enjoyed reading the cards and learning about the items, spell and monsters etc. The first adventure is just for learning but i still enjoyed visualising the locations and the monsters etc  So much in fact I have ordered the 2nd adventure “The Skinsaw Murders Adventure Deck” without even having played the first one.  I think the negative comments came from hard core RPG Pathfinder players (Undead Viking to name one) but I think its great.

Give it a go, you might like it !

Agents PnP plus Pathfinder

I printed the Agents PnP KS I got the other day and started making up the cards. I printed single sided and stuck the backs to the fronts to get a slightly thicker card. Then I sleeved and thought I was ready to go but I stuck the wrong front onto the wrong back for one page. I will reprint tomorrow and get the last 9 card to complete the 36 agents cards. The horizontal cards are mission cards.

The art work is crisp and I enjoy the comic style. I figure that I can use my futuristic coins for VP instead of using cards.

The PnP version has all the expansion etc and it looks very playable.

I also got a confirmation from the BD that my copy of Pathfinder the card game is on the way.

Samurai Sword

I just had a couple of three player games of Samurai Sword. Here is BGG link

Samurai Sword is a new game based on the proven Bang! mechanisms and set in feudal Japan. In this game, the familiar features of Bang! are enhanced by more dynamic and fast-paced game play, and thanks to a new scoring system – based on honor points and resilience points – there is no player elimination. Everybody gets to fight to the very end! Also, weapons and attacks are fused into a single card.

It is a streamlined version of “Bang” which I have played a lot. The rules are light and its a very quick game. Its always fun playing a weapon card and saying the cards name and likewise a parry seems to evoke the same emotion. So I would recommend trying it. I would also recommend trying “Bang”.

I just put an order in for a few games from CoolStuff . The first one is

Duel of Ages II is a time-scramble board game played between two opposing sides each having 1 to 4 players, with uneven size allowable. Each side controls a selected team of 8-12 characters from different ages of time: Ancient, Colonial, Modern and Future. The goal is to win greater glory in overcoming adventures and in tactical combat than the opposing team.

This has been on my games radar for a while and after see a review , I decided to go for it. I’m just getting the basic game to see what I think.

Next is

Mage Wars pits powerful Mages against each other in deadly arena combat. Each Mage uses his own fully-customizable book of spells to achieve total victory over his opponent. Summon mighty creatures to do battle in your name; cast powerful spells to attack your foe and thwart his every plan and strategy; use hidden enchantments to turn the tables and rule the day; adorn yourself with mighty weapons, armor, and arcane artifacts – all of this and more awaits you in the arena of Mage Wars!

I like the idea of a 2 player game with pre built spell deck, plus it also has a board of sorts. Reviews look good so I though why not!

and

Creation and Control pits a new wave of enigmatic Shapers against the latest and greatest of Haas-Bioroid’s developments in artificial intelligence, efficiency, and security. The first deluxe expansion for Android: Netrunner The Card GameCreation and Control introduces 165 new cards (three copies each of fifty-five individual cards) that will instigate dramatic new strategies and high-stakes battles for the control of valuable files and the futures outlined within them.

I have the complete genesis cycle so this was the next logical step. Its only just been released ( today) and I cant wait.

Finally I got a filler

Samurai Sword is a new game based on the proven Bang! mechanisms and set in feudal Japan. In this game, the familiar features of Bang! are enhanced by more dynamic and fast-paced game play, and thanks to a new scoring system – based on honor points and resilience points – there is no player elimination. Everybody gets to fight to the very end! Also, weapons and attacks are fused into a single card

I really enjoy playing Bang and the a more streamlined version with a new theme sounds great.

So this lot should see me through to the end of winter.

Well, after not playing the first game correctly (something didn’t seem right but I couldn’t quite figure it out) and after re reading the rules, the second game was great. I think this game will be played a lot more for sure.

The deck building aspect is great and trying to plan the deck structure is something that will get better. I have the “escalation” expansion ordered vis the KS project and in fact this is how I found out about this game. The art work on the cards is great and the components are first rate.

and

So , I will double check rules but I think I have got them correct and try and get some more games in asap.

I got Innovation from Coolstuff plus the second expansion Figure in the Sand. See BGG link for more info and here is a brief summary.

Second Printing
This new game by Carl Chudyk is a journey through innovations from the stone age through modern times. Each player builds a civilization based on various technologies, ideas, and cultural advancements, all represented by cards. Each of these cards has a unique power which will allow further advancement, point scoring, or even attacking other civilizations. Be careful though, as other civilizations may be able to benefit from your ideas as well!  To win, you must score achievements, which you can attain by amassing points or by meeting certain criteria with the innovations you have built. Plan your civilization well, and outmaneuver your opponents, and you will achieve victory!

I have had a 2 player and 3 player game and it was a hoot!

The second game I had victory within sight then got “emancipated” and lost on points.
