I just gave these a quick base and ink. Nice looking models (for what they are – board game pieces) but I am waiting for the alternative poses to arrive next year before finishing as I don’t know which ones I will want to use.

“Coming right at ya”

The mighty Veer-myn team called the BB Stealers won game number 2. The score was 3 points to the home side.
The winning move was a 4 point strike by the BB Stealers rat of the match – Cruiser.
Well that was a fun game, still having to read rules but getting better and trying different moves such as steals and I was almost tempted to stomp on the 29er guard but decided not to until I had read the rules. Didn’t want to slow the game down.
And the trophy for winning the second game goes to , well ME 😉

Well, after removing the flashing (more than I was expecting) the rats painted up ok. There is plenty of detail and I was pleasantly surprised with the models once painted. Not a big painting job and no bases to paint so they are a pretty quick project. I will add some more detail one day.
I am looking forward to getting the alternative poses due next year and also painting the dwarfs.

The MVP Reekrolat is the nicest model and its a bit ironic that this is an extra (not part of standard game contents). I will use him as a guard in normal games of DB.
I got an email from my mate who has already painted 4 of his 29ers. I had better get a move on. I have based coated 8 models and test painted a striker and guard in my proposed team colors.

Note:
I missed this bit in the email from Mantic
** Note: the 12 alternatively posed figures (6 Veer-myn, 6 Forge Fathers) will ship in the second shipment.
Oh well, there is a lot more stuff coming for DB
Well, after much waiting from the initial KS pledge and the drama with the posting of the pledges I finally had a game of Dreadball. I used my S Stealers and my opponent used the M Delvers. We had only quickly read the rules so we expected some rule reading to slow things down a bit. The game took about 90 minutes so that was ok. I just blue tacked on the models onto the clear hex bases as they we not painted and we had the odd issue with direction or facing. I might mark each front with a small dot. Also I think we should have played from top to bottom cf to sideways as it would make it easier to manage. I one point I started running towards the wrong strike zone!

FUN sums up the gaming experience ,with not having to reset after a strike and the sin bin rules worked a treat. Also the dice rolling was fun with the obligatory eye rolling when a 6 was re rolled and even though I am not a big fan of this mechanism I don’t think it’s a issue.
So I will re read the rules (already noticed a few mistakes) and get my teams painted for the next game. I am also thinking of making my own board and customizing it for my S Stealers.
If you are sitting on the fence re purchasing this game, a cheap way to get started would be to just buy a team, make your own board and download the QS rules and have a go. The cards are not critical and and least you can get playing.
I put together my veer-myn, well most of them. One of the poses just doesnt seem right, It appears to be slightly bent and doesnt standup without falling over. Not sure yet but I think it might require an email to Mantic, but not a major more of an annoyance.
The easy ones to assemble and they look nice. The MVP is very nice but probably because it bigger!

The mold lines are visible , but I have not had any matic models before so maybe this is normal. This is from a modellers point of view and ai doublt whether a board gamer would even think its an issue. The plastic is quite hard and it takes a good scrap and even carefully cutting to remove the mold lines.

These are the bent ones? Not sure but I guess I need them assembled to play a game. Its nothing a bit of GS or heating wouldnt fix but I just hope they would be better than this.

One other thing, it that the hex bases are suppose to be interchangeable or do you just paint models and then glue to base? I guess its paint and then glue to base.
Next is to get another team assemble so I can have a game 🙂
I got home and it was waiting next to my mailbox. Yahoo. Here are some very quick snaps of forefathers, veer-myn and specials.
First up impression – Very nice board, rules and models. KS counters are better than the carboard ones pad looks ok.
Models are multi part and have visible mold lines and are smaller than I imagined. Detail is nice (I have never had any mantic plastics before) I will make a few up before I comment any more. I think they are good. Its was great to KS it and get all the extra models and special even though they will come 2013. I cant wait to have a game.

Damn, batteries have just died in camera. I will have to charge them up before I can post a made up Veer-myn and special.
I got an email today from Mantic, here is a snippet

We are getting close to the goal – that goal obviously being the dispatch of over 2500 Kickstarter pledges! The first of our Kickstarter pledges will start shipping next week, and with the 8 MVPs (the final components) arriving as well we will start shipping Strikers a week on Monday! |

According to Mantics latest email, they are packing up the Dreadball KS sets. I pledged for a Striker and it will be an early xmas when it arrives. I also see that the KS supporters are getting the MVPS Lucky Logan, Slippery Joe, The Enforcer,Reek Rolat,Number 88, John Doe and Wildcard in the initial package. Cool. See the Dreadball.com site for more info on Reek. Web site is a WIP but its a good start.
