I have pledged for a few KS projects and I have mostly got some pretty good deals. The only problem I have is the  waiting time for the KS projects to deliver. I think that you have to  be very cautious when pledging due to the delays and then losing interest in the project. You are not buying a ready made game so I expect some delays but the point is beware of getting caught up in the crowd funding mania. Some KS projects appear to have already been made and KS is just a selling mechanism e.g. Zombicide and other CMON KS projects.

1: Ogre DE – Pledged for game on 12th May 2012. Fantastic project but it is still undelivered due to a variety of delays. This is a special project and I can live with the delays.

2: Dreadball – I pledged for a Striker and got the wave 1 delivery , a little but delayed and after it had been released to the retail store. Bad move #1 from Mantic. The models were very average and after a few games it hasn’t been used for months. The second wave delivery is due soon, I have no idea and Mantic communication is sporadic – Bad move #2 from Mantic. I couldnt really care much about the wave 2 as the game is very average as well and it might be on my selling list. Not sure yet until I see the rest of the models. I wish I hadn’t backed this but its too late now!

3: Coloured baggies – A very cool KS project – Communcation has been first rate and delivery scheduled has not changed. Excellent and KS was a great way to promote this project. No regrets.

4: Hegemonic – I am a sucker for cool board games and this one looks the part. Communication has been excellent and delivery is on schedule. This wouldn’t of happened without KS so I don’t have any issues and have in fact purchased some other minion games (See blog entry in PnP games).

5: Futuristic Metal Coins – to be used with any of my board games, this was a well run KS Project. Communcation has been excellent and schedule is on time. Would not have happened without crowd funding so it was a valid KS project. Cant wait 🙂

6: Wild West Exodus- Has the potential to be a very good KS project. Plagued with poor communication and changing conditions. Slippage has already occurred and I don’t have my hope up for the delivery to be on time due to the potential delays in the Chinese factories and the complexity of the project re the number of models that need to be made. Still it is worth the risk and I hope I will still be interested when it arrives. Hopeful.

7: Empire of the dead – Only a minimal pledge to get the rule book, nicely run KS Project. Didnt really like the models but the theme was fantastic and the starter rules looked very good. Could have been done without KS and in fact you can get rules already, just not in PDF format. Looking forward to reading rules.

8: Battle for Stalingrad – Still early days but this looks like a fun card game. There is a PnP options which will be the likely level for me. Hasn’t been funded yet but PnP is minimal $ anyway.

9: Eminent Domain Expansion – Still early but only a short KS Project. Looks very good. Shame there is no PnP option. Not sure yet as I need to acquire Eminent Domain and give it a test. Postage is a lot so might have to U Shop this one!

9: Eden – Rulebook project vis IndieGoGo – this was well run and the delivery schedule was relatively short. Book arrived on time (within days) and was what I expected. No issues.

My take on KS projects – Be careful, dont pledge just before without thinking about what you are getting into and hope you don’t lose interest while you wait.

I suppose there is always Trade Me 😉

This company has been on my radar for a while. You can get the games in NZ but they are not cheap. New Era is $109 retail but can be brought for $89 + postage. Winter is not available in NZ so when I saw them both for sale online I brought them. The cost was $89.98  + 12.50 postage, yes that if for both games! It just shows yet again that there is something seriously wrong with retail prices of Games in NZ.

PnP bug

I got the PnP bug and brought another board game , “Kingdom of Solomon” from Minion games via the Wargame Vault. It looks very nice and I will print it asap and get a game organised.

Kingdom of Solomon is a worker-placement game with a few new twists and turns. Do you claim a resource space, an action space or throw in all your remaining pawns to grab a powerful Bonus Space? Will you spend your resources to extend Solomon’s kingdom, take some points in the Market or add to the Temple? These and many other choices await you in this highly interactive game.

Here is another KS project with a cool theme. Its EOTD

Lots of factions and they have just unlocked “The Tong”. I am not sure on the model quality cf to the models I usually paint ie Malifaux, Eden and Dark Age but the setting is fantastic and I can see the narrative developing during a game. This could be another PnP purchase to just get the rules and use my collection of Malifaux models ( I have 100+) to represent the factions.

Check out this link

looks cool and I may just PnP but I might get the the actual production copy if funds permit.

Board gaming bits and pieces

One of my other interest apart from miniature gaming is board games. I recently purchased and downloaded a PNP game from the wargame vault  and printed it a work on the laser printer. The game was “The Manhattan Project” and its by Minion games.

A power struggle at the beginning of an atomic age. A revolutionary new technology. Who will use it to build the deadliest arsenal and become the world’s dominant superpower?

The Manhattan Project is a low-luck, mostly open information efficiency game in which players compete to build and operate the most effective atomic bomb program. Players do not “nuke” each other, but conventional air strikes are allowed against facilities.

The game features worker placement with a twist; There are no rounds and no end-of-round administration. Players retrieve their workers when they choose to or are forced to (by running out).

An espionage action allows a player to activate and block an opponent’s building, representing technology theft and sabotage.

The graphics are very nice, the cards can be printed on two sheets and stuck together and the alignment is perfect. The wooden tokens has been ‘stolen’ from one of my other games but I have placed an order with a spielematerial in Germany to get cubes etc as I can see this being a very good way to play lots of games, so I will need some proper bits.

Here is my assembly. I got an old game board and just trimmed it a bit and stuck on the new board.

Check it out and if your interest has been piqued then don’t hesitate to download and get assembling.

Well I just had a game and it was a blast! 2 player game and we both made some bombs and loaded them. My factory got hit and stopped my Uranium production and we decided to call it early. So a great game that only cost $10 and a little time making up the cards and board.  Very easy to understand but complicated strategies. 🙂

well after much thinking and changing my mind I have pledged and will get the Outlaws. I will most likely get all the KS models for the outlaws plus some mercs and some terrain. It is a good deal and I want to be involved with beta rules etc

Here is a reblog of some images showing beta card

and a light support buggy

I made up the dog “Luna” and the Arab “Sidir” and mounted McCabe on the some Taban resin bases.

Very cool but have been distracted by WWX KS and planning my army and my KS purchases.

Also listening to WWX podcast on Gamer Lounge  and thinking I like the Phonic Blaster ability. Even though I don’t like the actual model. Here are the graphics for the wave 2 Hired Hands for the enlightened. Not sure about the monowheels but the spiders are nice.

I got the Relic Hunters box set today (from pukeko games)and as always I am blown away with the quality of the new Malifaux plastics. Simply stunning!

I had to make up the Mounted McCabe and its scale and dynamic pose is great. To explain how precise these models are the bridle joins exactly on the bit and no tweaking was required. It just fits. If you haven’t brought any new Malifaux models recently, do it. You wont be disappointed. I think they are also refining the sprue making processes and appear to have more on this sprue compared to the Dark Debts sprue. You get 7 Models on this sprue.

And Mounted McCabe

Sorry re image quality.

I just have to work out what bases to use and I will make up Luna, Sidir and the Wastrels asap. I cant wait to paint this up 🙂
