According to their call, “[t]he Jewish Studies Program at the University of Virginia’s scholar-in-residence fellowship program is a short-term residency open to distinguished national and international applicants, who may be academic scholars or scholars of practice. Recipients will typically spend 3 – 6 weeks at the University of Virginia and are invited to conduct their own research and contribute to the intellectual life of the Jewish Studies Program.”

According to thier call, “Scholars are invited to submit proposals for this upcoming Special Issue, ‘Heritage and Memory: Jewish Cultural Narratives in Historical Context’. This project seeks to explore how Jewish communities across time have constructed, transmitted, preserved, and reinvented cultural memory. We welcome papers from history, religious studies, anthropology, law, education, literature, philosophy, and related fields.”

Crowd-SOURCE-ing Repost: Finding from the Jewish cemetery of Châteauroux

Philippe Blanchard, a colleague who works on medieval Jewish cemeteries in France, contacted me with a question of identification. From a grave in the cemetery of Châteauroux comes a pendant, which can be seen here how it was found.

Unfortunately, it is an iron object that has not yet been restored.

The X-ray image suggests an eyelet at the upper, wider end. The drawing was made after the X-ray.

Perhaps someone has an idea?
