Question, Squee, and Owie!

Question: Writerly type people, do you always write linearly or do you sometime write a scene that will come much later in your story but is so vivid in your head that you must write it before it disappears?

Squee: Omg, you guys, I am so happy with the new person I hired! 1) She is whipping everything I give her into tip-top shape, and 2) I think she might be a closet fen. We like a lot of the same books and keep discovering new stuff we both like, and she didn't even blink when I mentioned fanfic. I love it when things work out even better than you imagine.

Owies: I am pretty sure that I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot. It's been going on for a couple of months now and I've been ignoring it, but it's not going away. So I am trying anti-inflammatories and icing, but the most common therapy is staying off your feet for up to a week, which is not really possible right now. This getting older shit is really not fun.

WOW

You are all awesome!

I was having a rather typical day - feeling very overwhelmed with eleventy billion things (and people are starting to notice - not in a bad way, but in an 'omg, perhaps we've overloaded you' way) and sorry for myself and wondering if I needed to just take a break from all social media type thingies.

And to top it off, I had my first real yoga class tonight and I was a little apprehensive about how advanced the other students would be (even though it's a level 1 class) and how well I'd remember the poses. But I worried for naught as it all ended up fine and I was actually right in the middle skill-wise and I could feel how much stronger my body was during the poses (vs. when I first started in November). So, that was nice.

AND THEN!

I come home and am going through the mail and ...

I got a Christmas card from the Hudson-Hummels!!!!! Which I suspect that wordplay had something do with as she is the only one that has my address, but it's a letter and photo collage and a "Burt Hummel for Congress" sticker and I WAS SO EXCITED!!!

Then I come to LJ and longtimegone is posting pics of Benedict Cumberbatch and David Tennant and kerryblaze is posting pics of Bradley and Colin and and...

IT'S LIKE YOU ALL KNOW ME AND KNOW WHEN TO CHEER ME UP!!!

Thank you! ♥♥♥♥

Droid

(no subject)

So, it's official. We are now a completely Droid family. My husband was seriously considering the iPhone 4S and spent about 3 hours at the Verizon store hemming and hawing between it and several Android based phones. I stayed home and out of the way so he could be sure he really had what he wanted and he ended up going with a Droid (HTC Incredible 2).

In other news, the house is now spotless and ready for foldingstar and his Liam. My husband said they should come over more often since I only seem to really clean for them (or other company). I reminded him that he's home most of the time, so 1) the mess is mostly from him, and 2) he has lots of free time to clean. Either way, TWO MORE SLEEPS until they get here!

The boy did his first Shadow Day on Friday at one of the high schools we are considering. He really enjoyed it and saw a lot of boys that he knows, so this is definitely a strong candidate for us. The only downside is the location.

Also on Friday, I realized that I was starting to get pink-eye in my left eye. So, I threw out all of my eye makeup and luckily still had antibiotic eye drops. And yay for three day weekend where I don't really need to go anywhere that I need to wear makeup!

It's been so nice that I have had the window next to my bed opened for the last few nights. Today, I found a stink bug on the curtain. Eurgh! So much for open windows.

On the job front, I've been told unofficially that I am getting the promotion. Well, actually what they are doing in splitting our current staff into two new groups as we are picking up a whole bunch of new responsibilities and the workload is going to increase. So, Scheming Coworker and I will both be selected to lead one of the groups. But there are still issues to work out so nothing will likely be official until November.

Ahhhchooo!

You know the picture of the Before Person in the cold and flu medication adverts? The one with the red, swollen eyes, the red nose, the sniffles, sneezes, and coughs surrounded by balled-up tissues?

That is me, right now.

Took the day off to try and recover a bit, but my boss has already called twice on work stuff... no rest for me!

DC

Back to work!

The Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Transportation and our Administrator were outside our building this morning welcoming all of us back to work. There are huge signs in the lobby and people hugging in the halls.

I'm sure we'll all be back to grumbling about work by lunchtime, but right now I am happy to be here.

Calling out the cavalry!

Okay, vertigo66 left me a lovely comment earlier asking how she could help with my job predicament... could she write letters to her elected officials?

And, you know, I thought, why not? And then I thought, hey, I have family and friends that might be willing to do this too. So, I've hit up my family and my FB friends. And now I am going to hit up you!

I have a long spiel but the gist of it is, if you're an American who currently lives in the US, please consider taking a moment to contact your US Representative and your US Senators to ask them to work quickly to resolve the funding situation at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). I would appreciate it as well as my 4,000 colleagues and the over 75,000 civilians who have lost their jobs since July 22nd.

On a related note, I have been leaving comments on John Mica's FB page for the last few days. Nothing rude or threatening, but certainly making it clear that I am laying the blame at his feet. I went there tonight and either he has blocked me or turned off commenting altogether, but I am unable to post to his Wall or comment on anyone else's posts.

GOD, I FEEL SO EMPOWERED RIGHT NOW! I mean, it's sort of exciting, isn't it, breaking the rules challenging authority!

Furlough Day Eleventy One

Still not the prettiest.... oh, sorry, wrong diary!

Still furloughed! Now that the debt ceiling thing is winding down, the hope is that they'll get our stuff sorted out. So, maybe by Thursday or Friday? Of course, I am heading up to NYC this weekend, so I won't be in those days if we do go back! (We're going to see the Potter exhibit and I need cuddle time with my goddaughter).

ETA: OR NOT... Congress has adjourned for its August recess. Looks like I might be furloughed for all of August. Fuck.

Spent some time at the pool today. I figured I might as well enjoy the time off now that I don't have to schlepp the kid back and forth to camp.

Then I had to go do the tech support thing for my mother. She claimed her internet wasn't working, but it was fine while I was there (always the way, isn't it?). But I installed some updates and showed her how to use the iTunes store. And had to explain AGAIN, how internet comes to her house and what an ISP is vs. a browser vs. a website.

In media news, am making good progess of Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, book 2) and I managed to snag Pottermore accounts for both me and my son. I am FlameCharm46 over there, and am looking forward to the Sorting Test. I am hoping the boy and I get different houses so we can share the info.

More Tea!

Heaven!

Wow, Wednesday is a busy day! I've been caught up in teaching a class all day and there were loads of LJ posts, Facebook, Twitter and blog posts to catch up on! Obviously, this is the most productive day of the week for social networking.

Anyway, I am currently enjoying a slice of heaven. Our training classes are complete (for now), but we finished too late to head back home tonight, so I've got a free night in a hotel room with my dinner, my laptop, ice cream and the TV all to myself. I might have to be dragged out of here kicking and screaming tomorrow.

Also, interesting abstract here about how we become the characters we read about. I KNEW I WAS REALLY HERMIONE!
Dreamwidth

I picked the right day to stop sniffing glue!

Oh, LJ, you poor sad fuck!

I have 18 Dreamwidth invites if anyone is interested!

Quick recap of the last few days...

Sunday: TEA DAY YAY! We were down two, but it was still a nice, leisurely day with my favorite ladies!

Monday: Work craziness related to things in the news but of which I cannot speak publicly!

Today and tomorrow: Training course. I am learning how to deliver training on the results of a new workplace engagement survey (which we are supposed to deliver next week if we don't have a shutdown, oh, the irony!). It's in this really fabulous old building across the street from the Spy Museum. Which is about the best thing I can say about it. BUT I did have lunch at Cowgirl Creamery today. darthrami, I thought of you!!!

Better try to post this before LJ craps out again!

Things that make me happy!

Same-sex partners of federal workers can start applying for benefits next month. Right now this only applies to long-term care insurance, but it's a major step forward!!

David Cameron is at his first Prime Minister's Questions. Watch LIVE at this link (at least for the next half hour or so). I know, I know... he's a conservative! But he's got Nick Clegg next to him. *swoon* Oh, it's all so polite right now!

ETA: Do we have to call him Sir Captain, now?
