Okay, it's Harry Potter Reunion month and I pledged to myself to participate!

Fandom Roll Call

Names by which I've been known: Danijo (on FictionAlley), danijo1/misscake (on Live Journal), mscake (on Tumblr), ceekling (on Twitter), Christine (pretty much everwhere else).

Its been over 11 years now since I got actively involved in HP fandom, first via FictionAlley (smidge of writing, but also as eMentor and later as a moderator), and then onto LiveJournal. I loved the community we had, the easy way to track and follow people and events, and the ease of interaction.

I'm probably mostly on Tumblr now, mostly into TeenWolf, dabbling in other pop culture-y things, though work has cut into my fandom activities severely.

The husband is an ex now (or at least we are formally separated, but on very friendly terms). The boy is 16 now -- a Junior in High School, an honor roll student, and has obtained a learner's permit to drive. Oh, and have fully recovered from Frankenfoot.

Still a Potterhead at heart though. I re-read the books this summer for the first time in years. Watch the films whenever they are on, have the LEGO Knight Bus proudly displayed on my desk, and wear my Gryffindor colors with pride.

Hope to hear from a lot of all of you over the next few weeks!

Posting to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this El Jay! I created it exactly 10 years ago today, which was exactly one month after I joined FictionAlley, which was approximately 8 months after I found Draco Trilogy and began lurking around fandom.

Loads of things have changed in the last 10 years. Thanks for being with me on the ride!

I was always sort of a multi-shipper, with heavy emphasis on H/D. I knew canon would go the way it did but I quite liked reading all sorts of pairings (except anything with Voldie or Lucius).

What was the worst, though, was seeing fans treating each other so awfully over whose interpretation of the text was right.

I will echo what I said on Tumblr, though. I am sincerely glad not to be modding the SCUSA forms over at FAP right now. But I do miss the HP fandom experience and all of you!

Mind you, once I was awake the mind started going and it was hard to turn off.

But at least I was up early enough to listen to John Simm and Philip Glenister on Graham Norton's BBC Radio 2 show talking about the second series of Mad Dogs which starts next week. I ♥ those two so much!

I was having a rather typical day - feeling very overwhelmed with eleventy billion things (and people are starting to notice - not in a bad way, but in an 'omg, perhaps we've overloaded you' way) and sorry for myself and wondering if I needed to just take a break from all social media type thingies.

And to top it off, I had my first real yoga class tonight and I was a little apprehensive about how advanced the other students would be (even though it's a level 1 class) and how well I'd remember the poses. But I worried for naught as it all ended up fine and I was actually right in the middle skill-wise and I could feel how much stronger my body was during the poses (vs. when I first started in November). So, that was nice.

AND THEN!

I come home and am going through the mail and ...

I got a Christmas card from the Hudson-Hummels!!!!! Which I suspect that wordplay had something do with as she is the only one that has my address, but it's a letter and photo collage and a "Burt Hummel for Congress" sticker and I WAS SO EXCITED!!!

Then I come to LJ and longtimegone is posting pics of Benedict Cumberbatch and David Tennant and kerryblaze is posting pics of Bradley and Colin and and...

IT'S LIKE YOU ALL KNOW ME AND KNOW WHEN TO CHEER ME UP!!!

1. After reading a few more articles on the whole G+/name policy brouhaha, I decided to delete G+ from my fandom email account. Looks like the only thing I've lost is Buzz which I am fine with. I am keeping it on my other account, but wish Google had been very clear about where they were going with this from the beginning. It leaves a bad taste for what is otherwise an awesome service!

2. Yesterday was a waste of a day. I was all set to go to work when I started feeling very nauseous. I ended up working from home for the morning and then taking the rest of the day off from around 11am. I didn't want to look at the computer, read, or even watch television. I took 3 naps and still ended up in bed at 9pm. But I woke up this morning at 7am feeling just fine. Not sure what happened, but I am recognizing a pattern involving garlic. Which would make me really sad to suddenly have to cut that out of my diet!

3. Today is my son's 13th birthday! It's sort of a low key day. We've given him a few gifts early: a gold chain for the pendant we bought in Italy, a new sleeping bag because he was far too tall for the old one. He got to go to the shooting range with my husband this morning. He's shot rifles at his Scout camp, so I could not really protest much longer. And there were long gun safety discussion along with a required cleaning up afterwards. Tonight we're going out to dinner with the family where he'll get a few more presents. His big present is an iPhone but he's decided to wait until the iPhone 5 comes out... whenever that is!

Everytime I look at the projected path of Irene I hear, in my mind, either the voice of Wash (Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die) or the voice Colin Morgan: (We're gonna die! We're gonna die!).

But mostly I am just really worried that we'll lose power and my Pottermore Welcome letter will finally arrive and I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

Still furloughed! Now that the debt ceiling thing is winding down, the hope is that they'll get our stuff sorted out. So, maybe by Thursday or Friday? Of course, I am heading up to NYC this weekend, so I won't be in those days if we do go back! (We're going to see the Potter exhibit and I need cuddle time with my goddaughter).

ETA: OR NOT... Congress has adjourned for its August recess. Looks like I might be furloughed for all of August. Fuck.

Spent some time at the pool today. I figured I might as well enjoy the time off now that I don't have to schlepp the kid back and forth to camp.

Then I had to go do the tech support thing for my mother. She claimed her internet wasn't working, but it was fine while I was there (always the way, isn't it?). But I installed some updates and showed her how to use the iTunes store. And had to explain AGAIN, how internet comes to her house and what an ISP is vs. a browser vs. a website.

In media news, am making good progess of Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, book 2) and I managed to snag Pottermore accounts for both me and my son. I am FlameCharm46 over there, and am looking forward to the Sorting Test. I am hoping the boy and I get different houses so we can share the info.
