Fandom Roll Call<\/i>

Names by which I've been known: Danijo (on FictionAlley), danijo1\/misscake (on Live Journal), mscake (on Tumblr), ceekling (on Twitter), Christine (pretty much everwhere else).

Its been over 11 years now since I got actively involved in HP fandom, first via FictionAlley (smidge of writing, but also as eMentor and later as a moderator), and then onto LiveJournal. I loved the community we had, the easy way to track and follow people and events, and the ease of interaction.

I'm probably mostly on Tumblr now, mostly into TeenWolf, dabbling in other pop culture-y things, though work has cut into my fandom activities severely.

The husband is an ex now (or at least we are formally separated, but on very friendly terms). The boy is 16 now -- a Junior in High School, an honor roll student, and has obtained a learner's permit to drive. Oh, and have fully recovered from Frankenfoot.

Still a Potterhead at heart though. I re-read the books this summer for the first time in years. Watch the films whenever they are on, have the LEGO Knight Bus proudly displayed on my desk, and wear my Gryffindor colors with pride.

FINALLY finished A Storm of Swords<\/i> (aka ASOIAF, book 3). I reached a point in the middle of this book where I was just, \"What is the point of all of this?!\" and lost interest. But once I only had 3000<\/strike> 300 pages left, I just had to push through to the end. I still really love this world and many of its characters, but omg, GRRM! Brevity! Find some! That said, I really do love how every evil characters has their endearing moments and every \"good\" character is flawed.

So, this left me free to finally get to Kristin Cashore's Bitterblue<\/i> which I devoured in a day and a half. I know Kristin really struggled with this book, doing two major rewrites. I was pleased with the final version, but I feel like she could have gone on for 300 more pages and filled in some holes. I guess this is what fanfic is for... so, um, get on that people, because there is currently a dearth of it.

I need to decide if I want to start in on ASOIAF book 4 (A Feast for Crows<\/i>) next or find something else. Has anyone read the Divergent series by Veronica Roth?

Television:

Game of Thrones: The thing about this show is that it only covers about 30% of the book with 80% accuracy, but the actors are so damn good you really don't care if they throw in stuff that didn't happen in the books or take lines from one character and give them to another.

Glee: Um. I just would really like to understand the writers process on this show. Or if there even is a process or plan. Because it could really be so much more!

White Collar: I was watching the \"Bizarro Jerry\" episode of Seinfeld and suddenly Jerry's counterpart, Kevin, looked very familiar! It was a young Tim DeKay!! Is it July 10th yet?

Eurovision: Honestly, why is this not broadcast here? I mean, I know we are not in Europe, and we can't vote in it anyway, but this show is so hilariously awful and camp! I can't believe Norway came in last; their singer was so cute!

Films:

We went to see Men in Black III<\/i> yesterday. Predictable, though it had its funny moments. But yeah, Will and Tommy Lee are definitely showing the 15 years since the first film. TLJ's face in his scenes looked like a mortician had prepped him rather than a makeup artist. Josh Brolin, though, was pitch perfect as a young K.

Owies: I am pretty sure that I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot. It's been going on for a couple of months now and I've been ignoring it, but it's not going away. So I am trying anti-inflammatories and icing, but the most common therapy is staying off your feet for up to a week, which is not really possible right now. This getting older shit is really not fun.

I've consumed all of season 1 and 2 since Friday night! Count me in the Matt Bomer fan club, specifically the Matt Bomer Shirtless Sub-division, because omfg! But mostly this show is just FUN. The writing is great, the characters have depth and flaws, and did I mention Matt Bomer? Also, any scene with Willie Garson is my favorite.

So, that's what I've been consuming the last few days!

And to top it off, I had my first real yoga class tonight and I was a little apprehensive about how advanced the other students would be (even though it's a level 1 class) and how well I'd remember the poses. But I worried for naught as it all ended up fine and I was actually right in the middle skill-wise and I could feel how much stronger my body was during the poses (vs. when I first started in November). So, that was nice.

We are now a completely Droid family. My husband was seriously considering the iPhone 4S and spent about 3 hours at the Verizon store hemming and hawing between it and several Android based phones. I stayed home and out of the way so he could be sure he really had what he wanted and he ended up going with a Droid (HTC Incredible 2).

In other news, the house is now spotless and ready for <\/a>foldingstar<\/b><\/a><\/span> and his Liam. My husband said they should come over more often since I only seem to really clean for them (or other company). I reminded him that he's home most of the time, so 1) the mess is mostly from him, and 2) he has lots of free time to clean. Either way, TWO MORE SLEEPS until they get here!

The boy did his first Shadow Day on Friday at one of the high schools we are considering. He really enjoyed it and saw a lot of boys that he knows, so this is definitely a strong candidate for us. The only downside is the location.

Also on Friday, I realized that I was starting to get pink-eye in my left eye. So, I threw out all of my eye makeup and luckily still had antibiotic eye drops. And yay for three day weekend where I don't really need to go anywhere that I need to wear makeup!

It's been so nice that I have had the window next to my bed opened for the last few nights. Today, I found a stink bug on the curtain. Eurgh! So much for open windows.

On the job front, I've been told unofficially that I am getting the promotion. Well, actually what they are doing in splitting our current staff into two new groups as we are picking up a whole bunch of new responsibilities and the workload is going to increase. So, Scheming Coworker and I will both be selected to lead one of the groups. After reading a few more articles on the whole G+\/name policy brouhaha, I decided to delete G+ from my fandom email account. Looks like the only thing I've lost is Buzz which I am fine with. 2. Yesterday was a waste of a day. I was all set to go to work when I started feeling very nauseous. I ended up working from home for the morning and then taking the rest of the day off from around 11am. I didn't want to look at the computer, read, or even watch television. I took 3 naps and still ended up in bed at 9pm. But I woke up this morning at 7am feeling just fine. Not sure what happened, but I am recognizing a pattern involving garlic. Which would make me really sad to suddenly have to cut that out of my diet!

3. Today is my son's 13th birthday! It's sort of a low key day. We've given him a few gifts early: a gold chain for the pendant we bought in Italy, a new sleeping bag because he was far too tall for the old one. He got to go to the shooting range with my husband this morning. He's shot rifles at his Scout camp, so I could not really protest much longer. And there were long gun safety discussion along with a required cleaning up afterwards. Tonight we're going out to dinner with the family where he'll get a few more presents. His big present is an iPhone but he's decided to wait until the iPhone 5 comes out... whenever that is!

4. I've spent the last 7 months betareading, seal-clapping, and being a general cheerleader for <\/a>wordplay<\/b><\/a>http:\/\/misscake.dreamwidth.org\/344591.html<\/a>.
