Resumen: Desde la antigüedad la técnica ha modificado progresivamente la relación Hombre-Natura. Con el fin de "traducir" objetos y fenómenos naturales, o para suplantar la debilidad de los sentidos, el Hombre desarrolló una serie de instrumentos de visión en el campo científico. Dichos instrumentos de visión, entre ellos la cámara cinematográfica, fueron en una primera fase usados como instrumentos de análisis científico, para después convertirse en instrumentos narrativos. Sobre la base de estas consideraciones, el artículo se concentra en la investigación de la relación entre los instrumentos visuales y la narración cinematográfica. En particular, veremos como la tecnología digital acentuó el carácter espacial de la narración audiovisual, cómo este espacio parece corresponder a la geometría fractal, y cómo dicha técnica está transformando progresivamente el acto narrativo en la cartografía de un espacio infinito.

Fractals suggest recursivity, infinity and the repetition of a principle of order. They are digital pictures of the universe’s continuous movement ignored by mankind during millennia. This book investigates the relationship existing between geometries and technology, and how this relationship guided cognitive processes and thus the organization of narrative spaces. The author proposes a new approach for the study of media suggesting that from Bacon’s camera obscura to von Neumann’s computers both geometries and technology strongly influenced the organization of narrative spaces, which acquired a fractal character.

En los años 60 del siglo pasado, las posiciones existencialistas
y fenomenológicas plantearon un problema importante y
controvertido, que produjo divisiones en el seno del mismísimo
campo del pensamiento marxista. ¿Está el efecto de reificación
sujeto inextricablemente al modo de producción capitalista?
¿Está por ello destinado a desaparecer con la liberación de la
esfera social del dominio del capital, o bien tenemos que
pensar que el carácter de reificación es más profundo que el
mismo capitalismo y que está arraigado en la dimensión
antropológica fundacional, anterior a la relación social
capitalista? En este ensayo, German A. Duarte nos lleva a la
raíz de la actual crisis mediática, proponiendo la
reelaboración de algunas teorías fundamentales de la
comunicación y enfocando, desde otro punto de vista, algunos
conceptos cardinales del estudio de los mass media.

Realtà e finzione, narrativa e documentario, Lumière e Méliès: il cinema ci è parso troppo spesso chiuso in questa comoda e riduttiva dicotomia. Non è così semplice: dalle “notizie ricostruite” di Méliès al “cinema sociale”, dal Pathé Journal a Griffith, questo libro ricostruisce l’intreccio tra fiction e documento che caratterizza il cinema sin dalle sue origini, per concentrarsi poi su una delle più complesse e straordinarie figure di cineasta del secondo Novecento, quella di Peter Watkins. Quasi sconosciuto in Italia, ma ancora poco studiato anche nel resto del mondo, Watkins è invece all’origine di alcune delle tendenze più intriganti e complesse dell’arte degli ultimi anni, dal docu-drama al re-enactment. Ma rinchiudere l’opera di questo artista scomodo e ribelle in uno o più “generi”, anche se innovativi, vorrebbe dire immiserirla e, in ultima analisi, fraintenderla. Fin dai suoi inizi alla BBC (da cui venne cacciato nel 1965, dopo soli due anni di lavoro) Watkins ha sempre proposto un metodo di lavoro che liberasse la narrazione cinematografica e incitasse la partecipazione del singolo cittadino all’informazione e allo sviluppo dei mezzi audiovisivi. Autore di un cinema civile appassionatamente impegnato, Watkins è stato fortemente collegato ai movimenti di contestazione politica e sociale, proponendo un superamento della distanza fra opera e spettatore molto in anticipo sui tempi, che solo l’avvento di Internet ha reso pienamente possibile. E non è un caso che quasi tutte le sue opere siano state duramente colpite dalla censura. Questo libro del giovanissimo ricercatore German Duarte rappresenta in assoluto la prima introduzione all’opera di Watkins pubblicata in Italia.

This paper deals with the concept of reification, which is analyzed taking into account two main lines of thought. The former is the Marxist theory of reification, which is similar to and converges with the concept of alienation. The latter focuses on the phenomenon of convention that allows us to deal with extra-linguistic objects, non-computable objects, aiming at producing a shared reality; in other words, to produce simulacra through mass media.
This paper analyses in particular the transformation of the understanding of the concept of reification as enabled by Bataille’s work, The Accursed Share. In this work, George Bataille highlights the existence of the phenomenon of reification outside the relationships built by the capital.

This paper deals with Parmenides of Elea's way of inquiry about reality and the opposition emerging from it. In more detail, it analyses how Parmenides' concepts of logos and doxa present some analogies with Bergson's thoughts about duration and Time and how these theories influenced the understanding of visual media, especially the cinematographic camera. This survey will allow us to demonstrate that some scientific theories about space that accompanied the development of the cinematographic camera progressively allowed for the birth of a new understanding of this device. In the last section of this study, we will then focus on the way through which the film camera-understood as an intelligent device-passes from the sphere of doxa to the sphere of logos.

Pocos años después del desarrollo y popularización del cine, surgieron dos grandes tendencias que con el tiempo crearon la falsa dicotomía entre el documental y la ficción. Sin poder escapar de la naturaleza de la imagen fotografía, la imagen en movimiento dio lugar, de forma natural, a la creación de formas narrativas ficcionales que se elaboraban a través de representaciones objetivas de la realidad. Si bien de una manera reductiva, se percibían en el cine dos esferas opuestas que se plasmaban bien a través un documento objetivo, bien por una narración fruto de la imaginación. En otras palabras, la contraposición entre Lumière y Méliès.
La trayectoria de Peter Watkins, iniciada en la década de 1950, cuestiona esta falsa dicotomía y pone al desnudo la inmensa máquina de imaginario que se había apoderado de la industria cinematográfica y televisiva. Considerado como el padre del docudrama, Peter Watkins nos concede esta entrevista donde analiza su obra cinematográfica y reflexiona.

RESUMEN: En este ensayo se analizarán las características de la obra de Ozu, así como la relación que este director estableció con la cámara cinematográfica. Veremos de qué forma su obra atestigua la gran transformación que vivió la sociedad japonesa durante la segunda mitad del siglo pasado. En la segunda parte, se analizará Tokyo-Ga (1983) y el particular interés que Wim Wenders presta a las transformaciones sociales del Japón de la década de 1980. Nos cuestionaremos sobre el efecto que las imágenes video-electrónicas estaban teniendo en el contexto socio-tecnológico analizado por Wenders. De igual manera, se indagará sobre la desaparición de lo real causada por los simulacros que inesperadamente empezaron a poblar la realidad. Por último, se desarrollarán algunas reflexiones sobre la condición mediática analizada por Wenders en Tokyo-Ga y, a través de ellas, se analizará el pasaje de una condición video-electrónica a nuestra condición mediática actual. ABSTRACT: This essay will deal with the main characteristics of Ozu's oeuvre, mainly with the interesting relationship that he established with the cinematographic camera. It will be analyzed the way in which his oeuvre deals with the important transformation that the Japanese society underwent during the second half of the last century. In the second part, the essay will deal with Wenders' documentary film Tokyo-Ga (1983) and his analysis of social transformations in Japan during the Eighties. Following this framework, the effects of video-electronic images on the socio-technological context analyzed by Wenders will be examined. Further, I will inquire into the way in which simulacra began to populate our reality and seemingly replace the real. To conclude, through some reflections on the media condition highlighted by Wenders in Tokyo-Ga, I will also analyze the passage from the video-electronic condition to our current media condition.

In 1962 Umberto Eco published his Opera aperta. Forma e indeterminazione nelle poetiche contemporanee, in which he dealt with the televised space and its influence on the development of plot in contemporary narratives. The analysis of the aesthetic of television led him to highlight the exclusive capacity of television to transmit events in real time: Live TV.Eco affirms in particular that through the editing in Live TV, the role of choice completely changes in comparison to what happens in the editing phase within the cinematographic narrative. In Live TV, choice becomes a proper composition, a form of narrative, a means of unifying in a discursive way a set of isolated images within the framework of a wider set of events taking place at the same time and intersecting one another. This impromptu narrative brings with it the use of some recursive forms, which represent an important narrative tool enabling a weaving of the narrative space. Eco identified those recursive forms in some jazz figures such as the riff, the recursive form of which allows for the creation of an organic composition full of improvisation. A few years later, the importance of figures of this kindwas also noted by Deleuze-Guattari (1980), who posited that ritornello has an important function of organizing the exterior space, or chaotic space. Based on these considerations, this paper deals with the phenomenon of repetition, recursivity, and patterns, to bring these concepts into the construction of narrative spaces. This paper aims at highlighting the relationship between the models developed within the Analysis Situs and the contemporary media condition. Taking as starting point Bergson’s understanding of external reality as movement and using theories elaborated by Poincaré and Whitehead, this paper will investigate in which way both the Analysis Situs and topology have contributed to displace the egological conception of experience. In particular, the paper will analyze some existing analogies between the topological spaces and the relational space generated by digital media.

Les processus transmédiaux et adaptatifs dans la condition médiatique actuelle constituent le noyau de cet ouvrage. D'un côté, il s'agit de situer les processus adaptatifs dans un contexte technologique, qui, par sa nature, opère quotidiennement des formes d’adaptation, et cela même de façon involontaire. D’un autre côté, il s’agit de mettre en lumière non seulement le phénomène de la transmédialité mais également la collectivisation de l’acte narratif qu’il induit de plus en plus souvent. Or, il semble que ce phénomène soit demeuré en arrière-plan dans le contexte médiatique de cette dernière décennie. Entre ces deux intérêts, comme pivot de cette collaboration, se trouve l’analyse des relations entre le médium bédéique et le vaste univers médiatique. En effet, la bande dessinée représente, de l’avis de l’équipe directrice, un moyen de construire des espaces narratifs très particuliers, et son étude, contextualisée dans l’ère numérique, ouvre des voies indispensables pour mieux comprendre et cerner la manière dont les espaces narratifs numériques seront construits dans un futur proche.
Ainsi ce riche travail collectif est-il, à ce titre, l’un des tout premiers à être consacré intégralement à ce sujet. Construit en deux parties, l’une traitant des adaptations littéraires en bandes dessinées, l’autre des adaptations cinématographiques de bandes dessinées, il mêle approches théoriques et analyses d’œuvres spécifiques et ouvre la porte à la fois d’une pratique culturelle en perpétuelle transformation et d’un champ de recherche encore plein d’avenir.

Cet article présente un aperçu général des contextes technologiques desquels ont émergés, d’abord, le phénomène de fragmentation des médias et, ensuite, le phénomène de convergence des médias. C’est en effet dans ces contextes technologiques que l’approche intermédiale, caractéristique de l’ère vidéo-électronique, et l’approche transmédiale, qui accompagne le numérique, se sont développées. Depuis l’introduction du concept d’intermedia par Dick Higgins en 1966, nous prenons progressivement conscience d’être immergés dans un univers médiatique fragmenté qui exerce, dans les mots de Higgins, un « changement de sensibilités ». Higgins voit l’approche intermédiale comme une vraie nécessité imposée par le contexte technologique, comme un épistème indispensable qui transforme profondément la création artistique. À travers ce phénomène social, nous analyserons le passage de l’approche intermédiale à l’approche transmédiale comme le produit d’un changement technologique au cours duquel la composante technologique est rentrée, d’une façon active, dans le processus de création artistique. Nous analyserons aussi les effets de ce passage sur l’organisation, ou la fractalisation des espaces narratifs, et comment ces nouveaux espaces narratifs ont pleinement intégré les spectateurs dans le processus continu de création de narrations ouvertes, infinies et multidimensionnelles.
