My name's Michael, I'm a Game Developer from the Netherlands currently studying at HKU in Utrecht. I make all types of games, because unique concepts interest me. As many do, I hope to make a positive impact with my games. My philosophy dictates that games as a media can achieve more than just fun. This can be achieved by a deeper meaning, or a secondary goal. This goal is often described as the "applied goal". Applied games can motivate critical thinking, inspire learning, train, or offer new insights. In my opinion good game design means a player can experience learning moments from interacting directly with gameplay mechanics. This is what distinguishes interactive media from passive media, where you don't actually experience hands on.
My strength lies with coding these experiences. I think the most important part is good and clear communication about what a person needs and how long it's going to take. One of my other strengths in this process is catching bugs. I fit well into the role of gameplay developer as that way I can make the greatest impact to my philosophy, but I also have experience in low-level backend development like networking.
I'm currently working on a dating sim dungeon crawler, which should be on itch.io in february 2025.
