A symmetric planar dipole was developed for 5–7 GHz frequency range with supplementary circuits and method of evaluation of effective area of antenna was proposed for designed antenna.

Features and issues of this range device design are considered along with applied methods. The example of routing in transport network with duplex frequency channel multiplexing is given. Analysis of influence of signal resolution in digital block of modem, ADC, and DAC and error control codes on modem's proprieties and architecture are presented. Proposed architecture was designed considering methods of compensation of increasing the peak-to-average ratio.

Results of researches in the field of implementation of the low-power matched filters on the basis of multichannel correlators are presented. Circuit and layout problems and their decisions are considered.

Results for suggested radiation pattern management method which can provide up to 42° maximum derivation angle shift for radiation pattern for dipole, patch, and frame on-chip antennas are shown for 5.8, 24, and 60 GHz.

The VGA shows a maximum gain variation of 84 dB, its -3 dB bandwidth is 600 MHz at a maximum gain of 40 dB and 1.6 GHz at a minimum gain of -44 dB. The VGA gain is adjusted by applying external control voltage at the range of 350 mV to 1.6 V and is varied within 84 dB. The design's parameters were calculated and simulated for 180-nm CMOS technology. The VGA drains 4.5 mA from 1.8 V supply thus dissipating 8.1 mW.

Testing approaches for measuring the integrated antenna's parameters and modulation-depth measurement method allow evaluating the influence of factors degrading antenna performance such as technological metallization, slotting, packaging etc. Obtained results show an efficiency of integrated antenna of up to 20% without the package, an optimal frequency range of 4-6 GHz and the possibility to operate with signals using FSK, BPSK and amplitude modulation methods.

As a result an implementation method in which ADC is based on parametric phase quantizers was chosen. Using this method it is expected to obtain 0.18 μm CMOS 10-bit 1-GHz ADC.
