About MeshInfo
MeshInfo is a web-based tool which collects and visualizes data from Meshtastic nodes across the Canada country wide region. It provides visibility into your community mesh network, helping both new and experienced members understand network coverage, identify growth opportunities, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Through MeshInfo, you can view node locations on maps, check detailed node information including telemetry data, visualize node connections, and search for specific nodes by ID or name.
How to Configure Your Node for MeshInfo
Your node may still show up in other users MQTT messages without any additional configuration. However, if you wish to share what your node is hearing on the Meshtastic LoRa network so it appears in MeshInfo, configure these key settings:
Basic Configuration:
- Enable "OK to MQTT": Navigate to Settings > LoRa and set "OK to MQTT" to TRUE. This allows your node information to be shared with the MQTT server by other nodes on the mesh.
- Enable Position Sharing (optional but recommended): Go to Settings > Channels > LongFast and set "Position Enabled" to TRUE. Set "Uplink Enabled" to TRUE. This allows your node's position and recieved messages to be shared with other nodes and the MQTT server.
- Set Position Precision: Set the position precision slider to a value you are comfortable with sharing. The map and node information pages will represent your position with the accuracy that you select for public channels and MapInfo packets.
- Configure Your Position: Either use GPS (if your device has one) or set a fixed position via Settings > Position.
Note: Your node will still appear in MeshInfo without location data, but distance and direction information to other nodes won't be available.
MQTT Connection (recommended):
Important: Users who connect to the MQTT can share what their node is hearing on the LoRa network. Connecting your node to the MQTT server allows your data to contribute to analysis of the regional mesh network, and helps everyone better understand network coverage.
To connect your node to the Canadaverse MQTT server, configure these settings in Settings > Modules > MQTT:-
Address:
mqtt.mt.gt -
Username:
meshdev -
Password:
large4cats - Encryption Enabled: Yes
- JSON Output: No
- TLS Enabled: No
-
Root topic:
msh/CA
Enable Neighbor Info Module:
The Neighbor Info Module enhances the value of MeshInfo by sharing information about your node's direct connections:
- Enable the Module: Go to Settings > Modules > Neighbor Info and enable the module.
- Set Update Interval: The minimum allowed is 4 hours (14400 seconds). Default is 6 hours (21600 seconds).
- Configure MQTT Transmission: By default, neighbor info will only be sent to MQTT and connected apps. For best results with MeshInfo, ensure your node is either directly connected to MQTT or heard by another node that uploads to MQTT.
- Benefits: When enabled across multiple nodes, this helps build a comprehensive graph of the mesh network, showing how nodes are connected and the quality of links between them (displayed as SNR values).
