APA papers can be tricky to format.
The core authority on APA paper formatting is the APA Style Manual. You can find a sample paper on page 41 of the Manual.
If you don't have immediate access to the Manual, check out the sample papers online here via APA Style.
The Methodist College APA D2L cite also has an APA Paper Template that can be found here.
Headings
Within the body of the paper, it is also important to pay attention to heading levels. APA Style has a great page that talks about headings within your paper. You can check it out here.
Currently, APA recommends that text generated from AI be formatted as "Personal Communication." As such, it receives an in-text citation but not an entry on the References list.
Rule: (Communicator, personal communication, Month Date, Year)
Examples:
(OpenAI, personal communication, January 16, 2026).
When asked to explain psychology's main schools of thought, OpenAI's ChatGPT's response included ... (personal communication, January 16, 2026).
