Update: Several collabs complete!

Hi all! I’m still around. No new shows on my end, but just letting you know that several of my collaborations have been completed over the last few months. As of today, B-Fighter Kabuto with KamenScrubsSentai is complete!

Also, I had been working with Megabeast Empire on finishing both Juukou B-Fighter and Tokusou Robo Janperson, and both of those are done as well!

That makes Blue SWAT the only Metal Hero series remaining that is unsubbed, and that’s currently being worked on by Berndadelta Subs. We’re really almost there! There’s even an official BLU-RAY release of Gavan now on sale in the US too. Please support official releases and hopefully we’ll get more!

Happy viewing and hope you’re all doing well ❤

The Metallic Fansubs 2020 Christmas Special: Tokusou Exceedraft 43 & 44

Hope everyone’s holiday season has been fun so far! You know what 2020 needs more of? Crazy Metal Hero Christmas episodes! Because Shaider really just wasn’t enough…

Part of my toku binge since I stopped fansubbing was Tokusou Exceedraft, the 1992 Metal Hero series and the final entry in the Rescue Police series. I realize it’s not fully subbed yet, but you know… I speak the language, so I watched it in full.

Exceedraft starts as a standard Rescue Police show: saving the day from who or whatever threatens the city and its people without much overall plot. About halfway through the series though, it starts to return to Metal Heroes’ creepy roots and gets really weird with a God vs. the Devil plot and Earth’s fate hanging in the balance! I am all about that!

Except Kousaku and Ken become glorified comic relief during main plot episodes. I’m not all about that.

Exceedraft features three human heroes in super suits (Hayato/(Sync) Redder, Kousaku/Blues, and Ken/Keace), their commander (Kisaragi), and their assistant (Ai Hyuuga). Keace is a play on the Japanese word for yellow, “ki”. Also, the assistant’s little brother Masaru shows up sometimes for some kiddy focus.

Along the way, Hayato starts seeing visions of a little girl who tells him the apocalypse is coming. These two episodes are a small part of the series plot, but with a little twist…

There are ladies dressed as Santa Claus. And they can fight! Because… it’s toku, so why not?

So basically, God and the Devil are headin’ toward Armageddon and it just so happens the prelude is happening on Christmas Eve and that’s really all you need to know going into it. There are a few clip montages to catch you up if you’re lost. Also, a lot of biblical lore and imagery abound, so enjoy that…

Nothing to see here! Just God and the Devil’s forces facing off… in Santa costumes. Wait ’til you see the black Santas’ introduction.

I really liked Exceedraft, but I will not be subbing it beyond these two episodes unless it is officially dropped at some point.

A translation note: I’ve decided to use Weeaboo Shogun’s “Boot Up!” translation for “Jissou!”, the team’s equip command. It translates to “Implement!”, but I like the double meaning of Boot Up, first of starting up a computer or software, and the other of literally putting on boots (as well as the rest of their armor).

Head over to Releases to get downloading. Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday season!

If you really squint, these explosions look like a menorah! Look how multicultural toku is! (/sarcasm)

The Post Nobody Wanted But Is Happening Anyway

Shaider will be my last release.

After releasing or helping to release 13 full series in less than 2 years, I no longer have the motivation or excitment to keep doing this, so as of today, I am retiring from fansubbing. I will continue to work on my current collaborations, but I will not be accepting new ones.

The funny thing about fansubbing tokusatsu is that it leaves very little time for watching tokusatsu, so I’m very excited to get back into the actual viewing.

That’s not to say I’m done forever. I just need a (possibly very long) break. There just aren’t any more shows right now that I’m passionate about getting people to watch. If I do find a show I want to release down the line, it will drop as an entire series without warning, kind of like my “Secret Side Project” releases.

This has been a wild adventure for me. It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of work, but the rewards have been worth it. I feel connected to a community that I never really felt part of before, and for that I will always be grateful.

On a personal note, I am currently laid off from my job. Fans have asked if they can support my work, to which I’ve always said “thanks, but no thanks”, but given my current situation, I’ve started a Patreon where you can donate if you enjoy my subs. You can access that HERE. Anything helps and it’s very much appreciated.

If you’re interested in following the man behind the subs, I’m bluephlash on basically every social media app. I’m most active on Instagram.

Peace and love, and happy viewing!

Update: Torrents and Remakes

Hello hello! I’m back from the holiday break with some updates on my computer issues. While I was gone, I was able to download all of my old files from torrents, except for the Metalder Movie in 720p Bluray .mp4 version. That now has a new torrent if you are looking for it.

Also, the Dynaman .mp4’s are also up, so if you were waiting for those, hooray, you’re in luck.

Thanks for your patience while I sorted all of this out. Look forward to Sharivan soon!

Update: New Dynaman torrent file

So… I did something on my torrent client that somehow deleted all of my video files. I… don’t know how or why. They’re just gone. So now, I have to redownload all of my own files like an idiot.

I did successfully re-encode the Dynaman .mkv files again though, and they are out in a new torrent (which will hopefully finish uploading so people can seed it if anything goes wrong again).

Please disregard the previous torrent, it will never download to 100% no matter how long you wait.

I will re-encode the .mp4’s when I get back from the holiday break. I fly out in the morning and Handbrake takes way too long to finish 51 episodes and the movie by then.

Thanks for your understanding and enjoy!

Dai Sentai Goggle Five 41-50, or, Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out

Well, here we are! I was able to get the last batch of Goggle Five episodes out before Xmas. It’s a real holiday miracle!

The final batch finally gives us what I’ve been craving for the entire series: plot! And oh so much of it too. The final 5 episodes share similar elements, though they’re not necessarily one continuous story. I’ll take it.

Before the end, there are a few great moments in some one-off episodes. One of my favorite episodes of the entire series is the one where Kijima can’t touch any food or it turns to sand. It’s a really interesting premise, plus it focuses on Kijima, so it’s full of funny faces and comedy.

No! Keep these delicious chicken legs away from me! I’m not hungry at all!

Then there’s the treasure hunting episode where everyone is on the lookout for some gold coins in the mountains. Deathdark has a few mishaps though.

Accidental graverobbing! Quality children’s television programming.

Episode 46 begins the final story arc, where Deathdark is trying to find an energy source called Hightron that will give them enough power to take over the world. They power up the Mozoos with it, they try to use it in a cannon, it’s a lit up ball of plastic wrap… Someone in props was phoning it in that day. Our heroes are still gaining new attacks and abilities somehow though.

Really? You couldn’t have used this weapon in the 45 previous episodes? Seems like it would have helped.

The plot takes a lot of interesting turns and is very cool, leading to the final showdown with General Deathmark, Bella and Beth (who take human forms, which is completely unexplained, they’re just there all of a sudden), and some random samurai for some reason. The last episode’s action scenes are just completely over the top.

What I don’t get is the very end. Right after the final battle, our heroes just leave. They say goodbye and walk away, cue the credits. What?! No “they returned to their normal lives”, no “Kijima went to find his father that he walked away from”, no “we’ll come back someday if evil rises again”. Nothing. They just peace out and that’s it. I just… it’s weird.

Set off where? What’s so important that they have to leave immediately. They couldn’t even fly back to Tokyo first?

And that’s the show! It’s been fun and I really like Goggle Five for its quirkiness and pacing. Info about the full batch will be released in the next post. Head over to the Releases page to get downloading!

Read on for some info about my plans going forward.

Choushinsei Flashman 1-50 + Movie batch released, or, Song Lyrics Will Be The Death Of Me

Hello! Here’s your info post about the complete batch of Flashman.

There are quite a few updated episodes, so you can pick and choose what you want to download when you start the batch torrent.

1-30 + Movie: Updated for song lyrics. A lyric in the opening was romanized incorrectly. Also, the .mp4 versions of these episodes have slightly higher quality than their original release.

1-10: Updated for song lyrics. Fixed a grammar mistake in the ending song translation.

26, 29: Updated for mecha command grammar consistency with previous episodes.

There you have it. I keep saying I’m going to do better with song lyrics, but clearly I have some room for improvement there. Sorry everyone.

Keep reading for more information about my next project!

Flashman update

Well, the end of summer is here and suddenly a lot of people want a piece of my time. My spare time for subbing Flashman is unfortunately becoming slim for the moment.

I have episodes 31-35 finished and QC’ed, but haven’t started on anything after that.

With the work and personal commitments I have in view, I should be able to resume work the second week of September.

I’m REALLY hoping that I can get the whole series done and released before I go on vacation on September 25th. Fingers crossed. Stay tuned!
