Event:DRAFT EVENT LANGUAGE EXPERIMENT
[INSERT BANNER LANGUAGE OR IMAGE HERE]
Welcome!
[edit]Thank you for joining this activity to contribute more to [X language] Wikipedia! Wikipedia only works when people like you contribute! You can be part of preserving [X language] on the internet, by helping our Wikipedia become more relevant to users in your context!
Even though many internet users in [COUNTRY] use [TRADE_LANGUAGE] Wikipedia because it is easier to find on searches like Google, [LOCAL_LANGUAGE] Wikipedia often contains more relevant information. But, [LOCAL_LANGUAGE] Wikipedia only works if humans like you create content relevant to people who write it!
Especially as more and more parts of the internet are translated by software like Artificial Intelligence, having content written by local language content on websites like Wikipedia, helps us preserve our languages and cultures.
To get started we need you to “Join” this event at the top of the page, and then follow the instructions below!

Getting started with editing
[edit]
Most people start editing Wikipedia by fixing small edits! We have a tool exactly for this! It’s called your homepage!
Follow these instructions to access your home page and find your first edits:
- To find the page, go to top of your screen and click on your User Name or Click this link here.
- This should open a page that looks like the picture on the right.
- Once on the page, follow the instructions to identify topics that you can edit about.
- You should find a selector title “Suggested edits” in the top left of the page to find something to do on your first contribution to [LANGUAGE] Wikipedia!
- Hint: you can try the “Add a link” feature, which teaches you how to add links to Wikipedia articles.
Try some of the different kinds of actions on the page, to learn more about contributing to Wikipedia!
After your first edits!
[edit]After you have completed those edits, we recommend that you try to edit other pages on topics you know about.
[ADD AN IMAGE TO A SMALLER CITY IN YOUR CONTEXT THAT HAS ARTICLES TO EDIT]
For example: look up a city or town important to your community, and read the article! What do you find is missing? You can find cities and towns in X country: [LINK TO CATEGORY OR ARTICLE]
Often editors will improve article articles about cities by:
- Fixing information about the city
- Adding links to other articles on your Wikipedia in the article about your city!
- Making sure the first section summarizes the rest of the article
- Adding more information to sections already in the article (remember to add references)
When starting to edit it's important to explore different kinds of Wikipedia articles, to learn what gaps are on your Wikipedia!
Did you know that Wikipedia runs on references?
[edit]
Wikipedia only includes information that is already published in other reliable sources. By using references (footnotes) to describe the information we add to an article we can stay more neutral: sharing the perspectives of experts, we don’t express our opinions, but verifiable, neutral information.
The Homepage has an advanced suggested edit about adding references and sections to articles.
Thank you for contributing!
