An one day Train-The-Trainer session organized on January 9, 2026 by Wikimedians of Nepal in collboration with Kathmandu University – School of Arts – Department of Languages and Mass Communication at it's college premises, Hattiban, Lalitpur, Nepal. Students from diverse faculties—including Languages, Media Studies, and Economics—along with UNESCO-recommended participants from various fields, took part in the event to learn the Wikipedia ecosystem. The state university and the Wikimedia affiliate signed an MOU last month to strengthen their partnership, integrating Wikimedia programs into academic and co-curricular activities, enhancing the digital literacy and writing skills of the students. Furthermore, the partnership aims to promote Bikol languages, literature, and culture through Wikimedia projects as well as training, edit-a-thons, cultural walks, and conferences. Read more…

The Wikimedia Community User Group Rwanda supported the establishment of the IFAK Secondary School Wiki Club in collaboration with the school administration. Both teachers and secondary school students were actively involved during the official opening and will continue to participate in mentoring and learning activities. Students gain research, writing, referencing, digital literacy, and critical thinking skills, while teachers learn how to integrate Wikimedia projects into classroom and extracurricular learning. The program strongly advocates for open education by promoting the use and creation of free and open knowledge through Wikimedia projects in Rwanda. Read more…

During late November and December 2025, Wikimedia MKD implemented several key educational activities that highlighted the organization’s ongoing commitment to open knowledge, youth engagement, and collaboration with educators. Through international representation, hands-on learning experiences for students, and direct work with teaching staff, these initiatives strengthened the role of Wikimedia projects in both formal and non-formal education. For Wikipedia, this quarter-century not only marks its permanence as the largest encyclopedia in history, but also its consolidation as a pillar of informational literacy. In this context of global celebration, in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, we are preparing to carry out a unique initiative that brings the values of free knowledge from the screens to the walls of neighborhoods: the project "25x25: Celebrating Wikipedia." Dzongkha Wikipedia Education Program and Edit-a-thon is organized in different parts of Bhutan including Thimpu, Paro, Phuentsholing and Gelephu during 1st August – 31st December, 2025 in collaboration with academic institutions in Bhutan. The Wikipedia 25 birthday celebration was an occasion to recognize 25 years of collaborative knowledge sharing by contributors, build connections among community members, and showcase the project’s potential to the general public. In previous years, the Wikipedia's birthday celebration had been organized only virtually. But this year, we converged students from the Igbo Wiki Fanclub Alvan and Imo State University, to celebrate physically on January 10, 2026. The WikiChallenge African Schools, a writing contest continues in Africa. In 2025: 12 participating countries (Botswana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, DRC, Senegal, Tunisia, and Sierra Leone). 174 articles submitted by the students, 715 Photos and 38 videos produced published, and 38 winning schools. Organised since 2017 by Wiki in Africa and Fondation Orange with the support of several Wikimedia affiliates. Read more…

The Anambra Network of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria embraced the Wikiforhumanrights 2025 with inspiration and promises for new learning. It was not our first time, but we envisaged, this was special, and we lived up to it. From the online training to the physical event, we used the spaces to educate, learn new things, display our skills and share with the world. We worked on Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikivoyage and the translation of articles to the Igbo language. It was a collaborative campaign that was nationally organized by Agnes Abbah and Kemi Makinde in Nigeria. Six other communities in Nigeria joined in the campaign. Read more…

WikiForAll is a series of training programs designed to train students on Wikimedia’s Technical platforms. By doing this training for the students we believe that the students will learn about how to apply their technical skills for developing Wikimedia projects. Moreover, this will also help the students to develop the core technical skills and programming languages that can help them to pursue careers in tech and also add more value to their portfolio. This way the students are also introduced to Open Knowledge projects, culture and ecosystem. Read more…

With the support of the More History Theory Project on Wiki, the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) has established itself as a hub for coordinating projects on Wikimedia platforms. Professor of the History Department at UFJF, Mateus Rezende participated in the second edition of the Wikipedia mini-course for university professors in 2024. After completing the mini-course, he received support from the Mais+ Project team to develop an activity for editing entries related to the History of the Americas course. Since then, Rezende has been involved with the Mais+ Project and, in 2025, he taught the same mini-course he had taken the previous year. Read more…
