The incursion of the Norman-Viking hordes into Wild Eastphalia shortly after 893

The Lord was not with us that day! Firstly, he turned my black magic box made by nikon blind (batteries were empty, so forgive me, as I have to rely on images shot by opponents and by-standers) and then we were overrun by Bart‘s bearded masses!!

Bart and myself, we had a little bashing with our Viking-Norman-East-Franconian-Ottonian hordes, and I use hordes here only to describe Barts army of Vikings and Normans ... my Ottonians still lack men power! We had a re-run of the Hail Caesar rules ... still learning ... still learning ...

So in a few words:

I crushed his medium cavalry and slew the rest of his riders and exhausted my knights on his Viking elite. Barts‘s counter attack of his last riders ended badly and killed his main man. Then I tried to stem the viking foot wave with and all out attack ... but it was not to be ... at least not my heavy foot knights. None of my feudal retinue were following, so the last ditch-before-10-O‘clock-attack bounced off the Viking wall like a ping pong ball thrown by an asthmatic hamster. The inevitable was here.

Even the prayers of my dirty priest-monk were in vain! Bei Belphegor, I should throw the HRE into paganism again!!! ... but then what would be the world of wargaming without proper curses ...

Seven Years War – Honours of War

Last week I was invited to join a impromptu Seven Years War scenario using the Osprey rules, Honours of War.  I just brought my 1776 Hessians and acted like it was a couple years earlier (like we all like to do after a couple of pints ... aren't we?). Scenario was probably dreamt up, the rules were OK, but the "grazing" rule (when a cannonball jumps into subsequent regiments, proved to be a bit too tough). Making the artillery the overwhelming weapon of the armies.

In front of me ,I had Campbell dealing with the French Hussars and lot, so I just attacked.
Funnily, I just lost the most units, and even my flank collapsed a little bit, but I think the French hadn't enough fire power to continue and so the Brits were declared victors.

Nevermind, that is nothing unusual in our days, and we all enjoyed a bit Seven-Years-War bashing. Who doesn't? Following some impressions of the Ferdinandious event ... enjoy!

Initial Set-up
Opposed to my flank Campbell's French Husarians
as opposed to my 17th Death or Glory Boys / Dragoons
And the AWI Regt. Rall, Knyphausen and Leib posing as Hessians of the 7YW

Angus' assortment of French left Flank posing as a threat
And I just attacked
again the French set up posing as an orderly line
Mon Dieu, the "grazing" hurts!

The Brittanic right Flank
My Dragoons get hurt, but dish out as well
Finally the Brits move
My centre get shot to pieces, the following images couldn't be shown because of the brutality of the content!

1870 - Mars macht mobil, bei Arbeit, Sport und Spiel!

Aah, I had this a long time coming! I always wanted a new project for 2016, with more gallant, but useless cavalry charges, splendid uniforms, grandeur scenarios, but still black powder era somehow ... so I inspired (or better infected), some club mates with the idea of 10mm 1870 - Franco Prussian War!

Now I know that this is a bit like lottery, the chances that all have their little armies ready at the same time, but then this is more of a longer personal project. Always wanted to paint Pickelhauben! Soon many chimed in and trumpeted which army/corps they are going to paint (just like on a farmers cow market) ordering lead in in the kilos.

I decided not to hurry and to go for the Prussian Cavalry. A beauty to look at, and what better division to go for that the 5th Rheinbaben – the Death ride chaps!

Its still not finished, the famous Brunswicker Skull Hussars and the big man himself v. Rheinbaben, the cornflower blue Dragoons and the Artillery limber are missing/in the making.

Maybe I‘ll go for the complete 2nd Army, that way I get to paint the Garde division. I don't care if they didn't fight in their parade uniforms, if their is a chance to field beautiful uniforms, one has to grab it! ....

I have not a clue what French counterpart / army I should take on as well ...

Any suggestions?
