It will note the importance of notions and practices of environmental security for local and global sustainability and resilience. It then moves to a case study of Naples, where a serious garbage disposal crisis occurred last year illustrating how devastating environmental and public health consequences can follow from corruption and crime. This provides the basis for some suggested revisions to the concepts of white collar and organised crime. The Naples case has attracted international attention and prompts serious thoughts about the development of new forms of "dirty capitalism". The paper concludes with suggestions for future policy and research directions.

In this description, they adopt a notion of the city as a market-place, and more precisely as a «bazaar», for its multiplicity, incessant bargaining, trade and manoeuvre. In this bazaar legality and illegality intermingle, and moral boundaries are constantly negotiated. They also examine the metaphor of the «barricades», an important feature of the city in both literary and sociological accounts. Finally, they demystify the image of the drugs economy as somehow being a unique challenge to urban life. This demystification is based on noting similarities between illegal economies and characteristics of official, legal economies.

The incorporation of war within the remit of criminological analysis, advocated by classical as well as critical criminology, rapidly gained new momentum. The focus on asymmetrical conflicts and invasions unveiled the massive killing of civilians, bringing war into the arena of victimology. Moreover, the examination of the material forces that drive international conflicts situated such conflicts among the violent predatory offences that concern most criminological theories. The study of ‘war crimes’, ultimately, led some authors to shift attention towards ‘war as crime’. After briefly summarising the developments that shaped a criminology of war, this paper attempts further analytical steps towards the formulation of a criminology against war. A critique of the concept of ‘just wars’ is followed by the examination of the ambig...

The discussion draws on the literature on green criminology and state‐corporate crime and considers measures and arrangements that might mitigate or prevent such damaging acts. This paper is part of ongoing work on green criminology and crimes of the economy. It places these actions and crimes in the context of a global neo‐liberal economic system and considers and critiques the distorting impact of the GDP model of ‘economic health ’ and its consequences for the environment.
