Silverlight: Binary Encoding

Silverlightuk asks if anyone cares about binary encoding interopability. I think Microsoft got it wrong, they should have provided a MTOM. Today the vast majority of middle tier application stack servers are Java in the investment bank arena. That therefore leaves WebOrb (AMF) as the only binary option which is currently less performant that Plain Old XML (POX) and Representational State Transfer (REST) services. Will Hessian offer a solution in the future?
