
Marguerite Evans-Galea
Dr Marguerite Evans-Galea is the Executive Director of the Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS) at the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. IMNIS is a national cross-sector mentoring program connecting PhD students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with industry leaders.
Dr Evans-Galea has bachelor degrees in science and music from The University of Queensland, and a PhD in molecular biology from UNSW Australia. She has over 15 years’ experience leading translational medical research programs in the United States and Australia, and her work has been internationally recognised with numerous awards. Dr Evans-Galea is an Honorary Fellow Manager at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
Strongly committed to empowering early career researchers, Dr Evans-Galea mentors students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty, and has developed graduate mentoring programs in the US. She was the founding Chair of the Early- and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) Forum with the Australian Academy of Science, and is currently a member of the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Expert Advisory Group, Chair of the Australian Science and Innovation Forum, and Co-Founder of Women in STEMM Australia.
A strong advocate for science, Dr Evans-Galea communicates regularly via social and mainstream media. In 2013 Maggie received an Australian Leadership Award for her vision for the future of Australian science.
Scientific expertise: Gene and cell therapy; epigenetics; molecular biology; neurological and haematopoietic disease; metal ion homeostasis; oxidative stress.
