Science has as a broad objective the improvement of our understanding of the natural processes in our world and beyond. Statistics is part of acheiving this objective, through the use of properly conducted observational and experimental studies, with the intent to gaining insight on the processes and phenomena in our world. You can think of science asa creative process where new hypotheses or ideas, are generated from our existing knowledge. After the creative process, new ideas need to be validated. If these concepts are to become part of the accepted scientific knowledge, they must be supported by valid studies and statistical analysis.
