Second Day
Our feet and legs still not recovered from the day before, today was a shorter day, consisting mostly of exploring Manhattan. we bought towels at Macy's, since we neglected to bring them, and you can't dry your hair with a shirt. Macy's still has wooden elevators. We mostly browsed shops and observed people. We accidentally had a rather fancy and extremely tasty lunch of quesadilla and margaritas.  We hung out for awhile in a park with students so thick on the ground, there were no high quality  grassy sitting spots to be had.  We returned to the hostel to spend the afternoon in less active pursuits. For supper, we planned to go to a grocery store and then eat fruit and nuts and such in a park; but by the time we got our lethargic selves out of the grocery store, strawberries and grapes in hand, it was dark. So, we supped cross legged on our bunk bed.

I checked my marks on quest. Good news all around, I passed measure theory and did well enough that I will, just barely, graduate with distinction.

Eggs and Solidiers
I had eggs and soldiers for breakfast, which made me very happy to have eaten my first actual meal since the 24th.

No ultrasound technicians are available until the 5th I found out today, which is very unhappy news. I am getting scared here, with a mysterious pain in my side, no plans for cure and only a theory of  why it might be hurting. I know I'll probably be fine; but not knowing what is wrong is starting to get to me. I made an appointment to see the doctor who saw me on the 24th (well, actually he heard about me, didn't come into to see me until that morning) for tomorrow. My mom is calling the clinic back though, and see if she can maybe get me in earlier.

My mom has the clinic staff's admiration because she has been paying to have my sister receive the Gardasil shot. Apparently the *grits teeth* perfectly nice, I am sure, people in charge of Alberta health have decided for entirely logical reasons not to cover a vaccination for cancer causing strands of HPV (seriously, other provinces are already, or are planning to start, giving the shot to all girls in middle school). Nice distraction from the pain right here is my anger at them for not covering it already.

All but one of my marks for term have come in. The latest one showed up this morning, and is so high, I have gone back to check twice already, since I keep thinking it must be an error.

Between Exams
My Russian exam on Monday went really well, I felt I had over studied for it and had finished it in less than 30 minutes. It was the least formal exam I have ever written. There were 7 of us in the class, the professor was late because she couldn't find the room. No Watcards were checked, and the first person had finished and left in the first 20 minutes. It was also the lowest weighted final I have written at 15%.

Since then I haven't been as productive as I would have liked. Still, I have a good start on my project for Pmath 434, and I have done a little studying for that course as well. Tomorrow I'll be going to the library to pick up some more books for the project. I've heard back about some marks. I'd auto-passed cs 442 as it turns out, and I've done alright on cs 240. My assignment mark is up to 85% in cs 246, thanks to my actually doing the last two assignments. I remain optimistic about the term.

Tuesday was a especial nice day. I spent an exceedingly long time in Waterloo park enjoying the ducks.

Well, it took until 4A; but I am finally on the Dean's list. And my cumulative average is sitting at 80.0%.

I used to get pretty bent out of shape about grades in high school, and I told myself I wouldn't let myself get upset about them in university; but I never said anything about celebratory dances.

/me dances*

Only 20% of the book on C++ to go. The organization is getting kind of fragmented at the end. And I don't think he is going to go into the kind of detail I want about these 'advanced' topics; but I never expected this to be my 'last' book on C++.

The Pushkin and Chekhov course is now out of the question, it conflicts with my computational number theory class.

Grades
I am only waitng on one grade now. If it is a 91% or better, which is quite possible for the course, two things will happen. First I will on the Dean's list for the first time and second my cumulative average will finally be back above 80%.

I got 100% in cs 245, which I am very happy with. I never expected to actually get 100% in a university course.

Now I need to pack and then go to the airport. I really hope this visit isn't going to be as bad as I fear.
