The majority of my day was terrible. I spent 5 hours trying to get my license renewed/transferred. Because I have a class 4 license in Alberta, I needed to get a physical done and the accompanying form filled out to get my new license, which I did yesterday. I caught the first bus I needed to take at 10am, switched buses, got off the bus at 11am, and promptly turned the wrong way. I walked in the wrong direction for 35 minutes before realizing my mistake, turned around walked 35 minutes back, and then another 20 minutes in the right direction to the DriveTest centre. An hour and half of walking, with wet hair, in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals (I was far too optimistic about the weather) left me very cold. But I had made it to the office. I waited in line, and waited, and waited until my feet were sore. Finally, myself, my form, my old license and three pieces of government issued ID are at the booth. The lady picks up my form.

"Nope, no good. They didn't put your name in here, see? And it needs to be stamped. They never should have filled this form out without your name"

Defeated, I takes various buses back to campus, where I return my failed form to Health Services. The information nurse looks at it.

"You were supposed to have filled this out before we did your physical."

"Why didn't someone tell me that yesterday when I was here?"

"Well! It clearly states."

The correct answer at this point would have been, 'It couldn't have been too clear if none of you noticed yesterday'. This response of course occurs to me only now, hours later. Instead, I glared.

It was stamped, my name put in the right places, and a much more sympathetic person in the business office helped me go over it, though she admitted to not knowing if we got it right or not.

This is really annoying. The office is only open 8:30-5pm on weekdays, so the only way I can get this done will be to spend the $60 in taxi fairs to go out there one day before work and be a little late that morning.

Tired, sore, hungry, cold and frustrated, I slink home, defeated. Bureaucracy is once again victorious in its campaign to completely eradicate productivity.

The day very much looked up after that. We, myself and alfedenzo, and K. and J. went out for sushi. Much sushi was consumed.

Waterloo
I am back in Waterloo. I got lucky, and my bus made good time to Toronto on Friday, and I was able to catch the earlier bus. The last few days I have bee doing nothing of note, mostly just spending all my time with Holden :-), and trying to meet with my friends. Our tendency to stay in bed till 5pm is making this tricky.

We went to Mel's for breakfast yesterday. There were kids running around. It felt weird to see kids in Waterloo.

Once again, I lose at the game at updating everyday.

For mother's day we went out to brunch with my grandmother. She is over 80 years old, and describes what she does as "taking care of the old people". I hope I have her energy when I am her age.

Today my uncle fell down some stairs and broke his ankle. He is going to be in a cast for six weeks. Today I also rode the bus for first time. I made the mistake of taking the 2, which winds its way through the town, stopping every few blocks, to travel form Rockcliff to Kanata, it took almost two hours. Oh well, at least I saw much of Ottawa.
