Skydiving!!!!

Today I crossed a major thing off my bucketlist! I went skydiving with pikasafireand barefoot_starz. So awesome and amazing - freefall is the most fun ever!

The plane was tiny - myself and pikasafire were squished in the back with the guys we were jumping attached to - we did a tandem jump - and there was a guy doing a solo jump who got out at 4000ft in there too, plus the pilot it was a little close and personal space was non-existent, particularly once they attached the harnesses.

I went first and falling out of the plane was such a rush! The freefall (approx 200kph for 3000 ft - 1km) last about 35 seconds... supposedly. Went real quick I tell you. Then it was a case of floating down to the ground in circles until you land on your arse back where you started. All in all good fun and I definitely want to do that again, but next I think the plan is rock climbing and abseiling at Morialta National Park or Onkaparinga Gorge and paintball.

Have some pictures of today's adventures

Have some photos of today's adventureCollapse )

So much fun!

Bucketlist

I've had this list for a while and i've been meaning to put it up for ages so I have a copy somewhere where it's harder to lose it.

Theoretically it's things to do before I die - mostly it's stuff I really wanna try. And this way I will be able to cross them off as I do them!

The ListCollapse )

This can and will be added to later and hopefully crossing more things off!

Music Meme

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

mizubyte  gave me "T" on the understanding I wouldn't choose any songs that began with 'the', so here goes.

This was made a whole lot harder in that some songs appeared to have gone awol in the switch of computers and I wanted a very specific version of one of the songs.

1. Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves) by The Wombats

2. The Day You Come by Powderfinger

3. This Is How I Disappear by My Chemical Romance

4. Time of My Life from the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack (Shut up. I've adored this movie sonce I was 6 years old.)

5. Throw Your Arms Around Me by The Doug Anthony All Stars

Will make another music related post later about an awesome Oz electro-pop group that just moved over to the US, The Cassette Kids.

Enjoy.

Edit: Okay, so maybe I fail a bit at the english language today. The Day You Come was supposed to be These Days by Powderfinger and as a bonus here it is again live.

Picspam o'clock - Powderfinger!!!

Managed to get my hands on a ticket for Powderfinger's Sunsets Farewell Tour. Show was fantastic - if I can get a ticket for the October show i'm tempted to go again. I was in GA - standing, which had me worried since i'm 5' 2"and thus can see over barely anything, or more to the point, barely anyone. However, I got there early enough thast I could stake out a spot roughly central and I wound up being at the furtherest 10 people back from the front of the stage.

Had a great night - the openers were a Queensland band called Yves Saint Blue. They weren't too bad, song #1 was good as was #5 & 6 the middle one's were not great, including one I dubbed "the one where the bassist screams into his mike for no apparant reason". I think there was a song about dinosaurs as well...

This is them.

Yves Klein BlueCollapse )

Next up were Jet. Now I don't care what anyone else says, but I quite like them. Still. There I said it. Pretty good set, played lots of their new stuff - the look of resignation on Nic's face when they played the opening of Are You Gonna Be My Girl was amsuing. Here, have some pics.

JetCollapse )

Alas, all good things, including Jet, must come to an end to make way for the main act.

Powderfinger were amazing, but that really felt like a farewell show. I don't think I'm ready for it to all be over. Not much to say other than it was all very amazing and I wanna go again. Oh! And Bernard Fanning refers to Adelaidians as "Ade-ladies and Gentleman" - so cute!

Here's my contribution from the night. In no particular order and with random commentary.

PowderfingerCollapse )

All in all a good night - even if I din't get home til really late and then have to get up at 6 for work, that sucked I tell you.

And while I remember - -anyone still want that Cobra and specifically, Nate picspam I was some what planning a while back? Gimme a heads up and I might actually get on it.

Meme: You know you're from...

Oh, Adelaide. How I sometikmes both adore and loathe thee.

Meme nicked from mizubyte  'cause it's amusing and oh so true!

1. Go to Google and type, "you know you're from (your city or state) when..."
2. Cut and paste the list.
3. Bold the items that apply to you.

You know you're from Adelaide when...Collapse )

Oh dear lord, I'm a walking advertisement for this state...

Cobra picspam coming, I promise. Plus I promised either pikasafire , halfeatenmoon  or barefoot_starz (I don't remember who - sorry. Was a crazy weekend!!!) a Nate picspam so i'm totally on that too!

Til then.

Christmas In July!!!!

How did I spend my day off today? Well, pikasafire talked me into helping her bake stuff for Christmas in July at Format, who are having another fundraising bake sale - with a side of art and craft too. Hopefully I can find another Ernie, my clay bird/vulture/porpoise statue thing.

I spent the day making cupcakes, I'm actually quite proud of them in some weird way. Nice to feel i'm finally putting my time spent at art school to good use.

I made holly cupcakes. I'm rather pleased with how these came out.

Snowman cupcakes!

I MADE A SNOWMAN ARMY!!!! THEY TOOK OVER MY STOVE! THEY KINDA FAIL AT INVASIONS BUT AREN'T THEY ARE CUTE?!!

On an amusing note I have been naming pikasafire's fics using stupid puns that make me laugh. We also met up with halfeatenmoon who is in town this week, for coffee and chatted loudly and obnoxiously about bandom in Borders, as one does. All in all a good evening.

To come - I shall contribute to the music collection that's going round - meaning Cassette Kids, Powderfinger and Eskimo Joe from me.

Til then...

Finally! Something interesting is happening...

Finally, there may actually be a reason to voluntarily head back to the Barossa (asides from the obligatory visit to the parentals).

Local film maker Dave de Vries has been (successfully) been campaigning for the Barossa to host an international film festival. This is awesome news for local filmakers and artsy people.

article here for anyone interested: http://www.barossaherald.com.au/news/local/news/general/film-festival-for-the-barossa-valley/1852652.aspx

Bring on October 2011, I can't wait.

Meanwhile I have to get through Cabaret Feastival and my brother's wedding (yes, this time it's actually happening). Would it be entirely inappropriate to ditch the hen's night for a gig? There's this band playing I really wanna go see and it'd only be for an hour, maybe two...

Oz Music

Back last week from a road trip from Sydney to Adelaide via Melbourne (lots of driving, lots and lots of driving!) with mizubyte  and pikasafire, where we did a rapid tour of Oz hitting three cities, driving the Great Ocean Road and experiencing the great nothingness that exists between Mount Gambier and Adelaide (and yes, I know that some would argue that the nothingness doesn't end there, but that's a discussion for another day!) A more detailed repor tof the road tip to come... maybe.

As requested by mizubyte, an Australian music playlist for anyone that's interested. I admit that it's made of mostly my favourites, so a lot of Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe and Cat Empire, plus some others for variety. It's mostly modern stuff, I'll make a classic Oz playlist in the next day or two for anyone that's interested.

Enjoy!

Early End of Year Post.

Christmas is over and I have been happily recovering (*note - sleeping) from the almost month long experience. In total I think I attended about 7 differerent christmas... things. My family is way to big. All in all it was relatively painless, could have done without the hot turkey lunch at 4pm and then off to a dinner at a restaraunt 2 hours later!

I did manage to piss off my grandmother and aunt though so I won't call the entire experience a waste of time, after all its not one of my family events if someone doesn't leave mad at someone else.

I cheap-skated my christmas presents for the kids by making them this year, including an adorable dress for Kitty (to be seen below)

My haul of presents included -
  • A copy of Doom - now I can stop renting it from the video store.
  • Baz Luhrman's Red Curtain Trilogy
  • Books!!! Including The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and The Myth of Sisyphus by Camus
  • Cash - which I used to buy a new pair of flip flops (or thongs for the aussies on my flist!)
  • Various penguin themed stuffs - I may have started something here... not sure...
  • Shoe theme stuff including the cutest converse shoe keyring! - you'd think I had an obsession with them or something
  • New clothes
  • Silver huggies (earrings)
  • A sister necklace (from my younger half-sister)
  • One of those name neckalces with my name spelt correctly for once.
  • Oh yeah - and Haigh's dark chocolate peppermint frogs!!! Thanks pikasafire for those!
Highlights of the year - pics under cutCollapse )
