Tongue twisters, which are created regardless of whether words consisting of similar sounds are m... more Tongue twisters, which are created regardless of whether words consisting of similar sounds are meaningful or not, can be considered as a type of game that involves pronouncing difficult sentence patterns. Tongue twisters can be utilized as teaching materials in foreign language teaching and translation studies. In the "Introduction to Translation I" course, which is compulsory for first-year students studying translation at Marmara University at the undergraduate level, the main objective is to develop translation competence. The course focuses on providing instructive translation practices and concrete suggestions that can contribute to the advancement of the field of translation studies. Throughout the course, tongue twisters are used to enhance students' translation skills and proficiency. The source used in the present study is the book titled "100 unpronounceable sentences" written in French by Paul Jampert (2020). The study is limited to 30 French tongue twisters randomly compiled from the respective work. A total of 28 students, 12 in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year and 16 in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, voluntarily participated in the study. The tongue twister translations were evaluated critically on the basis of Jiří Levý's (1967) game theory, which embodies the principle of the search for reasonable solutions. Through such an evaluation, the study aimed to contribute to the advancement of the field of translation studies in practice. Tongue twisters are also analyzed in terms of transcreation and untranslatability. The present study is an attempt to present a pioneering research that will enable the advancement of both the theoretical and practical fields of translation studies. The study concludes that the translator candidates are able to create new tongue twisters in the target language, make conscious translation decisions in this regard. The tongue twister translations improved learners' problem-solving skills.

At the same time, the works named Istanbul Trilogy were analyzed within the scope of paratexts propounded by Gérard Genette. Genette's concepts of transtextuality, paratextuality, and intertextuality were examined and discussed within the framework of transtextuality by reviewing the function of paratextual elements. The footnote translations were evaluated within the context of the textual approach on which Larose focused, and the "prerequisites'' and "enunciation conditions'' were tried to be determined for translation within the scope of the integrative model. The term "translatometry" was adopted in response to the French term "traductométrie'' suggested by Larose, and with this term, a reference was made to a model that measures and evaluates translation. The aspects such as the asymmetrical nature of the equivalency concept, the similarity structure of the translation, and the gain-loss ratio in translation were examined within the context of the "translatometry''. This study was carried out as a reflection of the effort to integrate Larose's footnotes and translations with translational inquiries based on his teleological translation model. An effort was made to present a predecessor study demonstrating that Larose's phenomenon of teleological translation can be adapted to translation studies.

Then, evolutions of cloud computing, types of cloud services such as SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, DBaaS and deployment models of cloud computing is presented in the light of current studies. Organizations and institutions concerned cloud market are enumerated. Cloud based translation systems are mentioned extendedly. Technological transformation from cloud computing to cloud based translation systems has changed the social habits in translation industry. This is a reason why benefits of cloud computing to translation industry are cited. Cloud computing enters the translator's technological environment. Translator training will undoubtedly have to adapt their courses to technological developments. The comparison between traditional cat and cloud translation, the difference between connectivism and connectionism is highlighted. A new type of translation training is integrated with an educational learning theory called "Connectivism" to meet the needs of translators. As technology is shaping translation, the process of translator training should be improved considering technological revolution.
The Covid-19 pandemic in the twenty-first century made it necessary to conduct a study on psychol... more The Covid-19 pandemic in the twenty-first century made it necessary to conduct a study on psychology in the translation profession. The study aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between translator candidates' fear of Covid-19 and their professional outcome expectations. Within the study's scope, the effect of the psychological conditions of the translator candidates studying at the Department of Translation and Interpretation in French at Marmara University during pandemic on the outcome expectations for the translation profession after graduation was tried to be examined. Due to the pandemic, the questionnaire prepared on Google Forms, including the fear of Covid-19 scale and the professional outcome expectation scale and demographic questions, was sent online to the translator candidates. A total of 56 translator candidates voluntarily participated in the research. SPSS software was used for the analysis of the data. The study's hypothesis, which was created that there is a relationship between fear of Covid-19 and expectation towards the translation profession, has been confirmed. There is a statistically significant negative correlation between the fear of Covid-19 and the expectation towards the translation profession. In this direction, as the translator candidates' fear of Covid-19 increases, the expectations of professional outcomes decrease. Again, as the translator candidates' fear of Covid-10 decreases, their expectations for professional outcomes increase. A number of recommendations have been made to deal with the psychological repercussions of the Covid-19 outbreak. This research, which was presented during the process of dealing with the pandemic, is expected to shed light on other studies to be conducted.

In the third part, we analyze the impact of humor and irony in education according to Deleuze, Ziv and Lethierry. After the examination of the different points in this field, we will define the most appropriate time of using humor in the class. Finally the effect of using humor and irony strategies will be examined carefully. It is thought that this research will be useful for the researchers on this area and promote them to search the role of humor in pedagogical efficacy.

Fransız edebiyat ve kültür dizgesinden, Türk edebiyat ve kültür dizgesine yaptığı çevirilerle adı... more Fransız edebiyat ve kültür dizgesinden, Türk edebiyat ve kültür dizgesine yaptığı çevirilerle adından söz ettiren Bedrettin Tuncel'in çeviri tarihimizdeki yeri yadsınamaz. Yapmış olduğu çevirilerle Türk kültür dizgemize büyük katkılarda bulunan Tuncel, kültür değerlerimizle, Fransız kültürünün değerlerini evrensel bir çizgide sentezlemiştir. Araştırmanın kuramsal çerçevesini Molière'in Le Misanthrope adlı eseri ve Bedrettin Tuncel'in İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisi oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirinin, Gideon Toury'nin erek odaklı kuramı ışığında incelenmesidir. Çevirmen, siyasetçi, edebiyatçı ve akademisyen kimliğine sahip olan Bedrettin Tuncel'in Türkçeye kazandırmış olduğu çeviri eserlerin yanı sıra ön sözler bağlamında bilgi verilmiş ve gerçekleştirdiği İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çeviriye ilişkin kararları ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Söz konusu çeviri eser, Gideon Toury'nin erek odaklı çeviribilim kuramının öngördüğü normlar ışığında irdelenmiştir. İlgili kuramın öne sürdüğü "öncül normlar", "süreç öncesi normlar" ve "çeviri süreci normları" bağlamında somut örnekler verilerek çevirinin "yeterlilik" kutbuna mı yoksa "kabul edilebilirlik" kutbuna mı daha yakın olduğu belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Kaynak eserin yazım üslubu korunmuş, manzum eser, manzum türde çevrilmiştir. Tuncel, İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisiyle kaynak metin ve erek metin arasında bir denge kurmuş; biçim açısından "yeterli"; diliçi kullanım yönünden ise "kabul edilebilir" bir çeviri ürünü ortaya koymuştur. Bu bağlamda Tuncel'in İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisi hem "yeterli" hem de "kabul edilebilir" bir çeviri olarak değerlendirilebilir.

Çalışmanın bütüncesi, orijinal dili Fransızca olan "Il ne faut jurer de rien" filminin Türkçe altyazı çevirisidir. Çeviribilim kapsamında incelenebilecek filmin çevirisinde izlenen süreçler ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada, altyazı çevirisinde çevirmen tarafından geliştirilen stratejiler, çeviribilim çerçevesinde betimleyici bir yaklaşımla irdelenmeye çalışılacaktır.

Öz Bu araştırmanın amacı, Marmara Üniversitesi, Fransızca Mütercim-Tercümanlık bölümü öğrencileri... more Öz Bu araştırmanın amacı, Marmara Üniversitesi, Fransızca Mütercim-Tercümanlık bölümü öğrencilerinin bilişsel stillerini saptamak, ardından görsel, işitsel ve kinestetik alanlara ait dağılımlarını belirlemek, farklı bilişsel stillere sahip öğrencilerin öğrenmelerinin nasıl daha etkin hale getirilebileceği yönünde önerilerde bulunmaktır. Bu araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Marmara Üniversitesi'nde Fransızca Mütercim-Tercümanlık bölümünde okuyan 28 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada öğrenme stili testi uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS programı kullanılarak işlenmiş, frekans değerleri tablo şeklinde sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonunda elde edilen bulgular, işitsel, görsel ve kinestetik olmak üzere üç boyutta ele alınmış ve öğrencilerin sahip oldukları özellikler dikkate alınarak önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Abstract The purpose of this study is firstly to establish the cognitive styles of students learning French in department of translation and interpretation at Marmara University; and secondly to determine how to make the learning process of students having different cognitive styles to be more effective by identifying the distribution of cognitive styles among auditory, visual and kinaesthetic styles, and to make recommendations that may be effective in learning. This study has included 28 students at Marmara University, Department of French Translation and Interpretation. The study was carried out using a questionnaire. Data obtained were processed using the SPSS Software, and the frequency values are presented in the form of tables. At the end of the study auditory, visual and kinaesthetic styles, and then the appropriate methods and techniques were recommended taking into consideration the characteristics of students.

In the qualitative phase of the study, six instructors and six students in the study group voluntarily answered the structured interview questions. The responses obtained from these interviews were transferred to NVivo 11 program. In addition, secondary data on curriculum oriented courses were obtained and the inventory collection on the terminology concerning courses given by the departments of Translation Studies, and Translation & Interpreting was gathered. The contents of the courses in the curriculums of these departments based in our country were examined and terminology courses were classified accordingly. During the secondary data analysis, the names of the courses related to terminology, the contents of these courses, the semester they were given, whether they are compulsory or elective courses, and their ECTS information are categorized. The researcher examined the contents of the curriculum of these departments based in our country. As a result of the extensive literature survey conducted within the dissertation and the results of the surveys and the interviews with the voluntary participation of the lecturers and students, it should be emphasize that there should be the courses called Terminology I and Terminology II within the curriculum of Translation Studies, and Translation & Interpreting departments.
In order to show the importance and the place of the terminology in the field of translation, it is thought that thanks to this dissertation, the students and the lecturers would be familiarized with the field of Terminology which will be beneficial. This study is expected to be a guide to the need for a special place in terminology in translation training. In this context, by adding to the limited number of sources in this related field, this study is expected to be one of the sources for those who can’t reached the specific works written in a foreign language.
