Dumb X3 question

Please please please tell me that X3 Beast is still supposed to be a genius scientist type. Pretty please with sugar on top! I don't want to have to introduce Cecelia Reyes into my story, because I don't know her well enough to write her without pulling out a million back issues and rereading.

I know Hank gets sent off to the UN at the end of the movie, but I can't remember what else is said about him. He's still a Dr. of something, right?

Arg. I really need him to be a medical genius because he has a vitally important scene in my fic.

Heeeeeellllllllp!!!!

X3-related request and beta request

I seem to recall that somewhere out there, someone had a bootlegged copy of the scene with Logan and Scott from the beginning of the movie. Would anyone know where I could find it? I missed the beginning of the movie and there's something I want to see in that scene. It's not essential, but it would be helpful. Thanks! (Actually, I'd also appreciate it if folks could tell me if there was any other Scott content before he encountered the Phoenix. I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong.)

I'm plodding along on my xmmficathon story and I'm moderately pleased. I'll be more pleased when I find the time to write the whole story, but still, I think my recipient will like this. It's a bit more angsty than is my wont, but somehow I suspect that people who know me will still be able to figure out that I wrote it. I'm not sure I'm capable of hiding my...well, I don't know if style is the word I want, but you know what I mean. I think the story definitely has certain hallmarks of my writing :D

Hmm, is anyone available to beta the fic when it's done? Preferably someone who isn't participating in the ficathon! I can tell you that it's gen (shocked, aren't you), it'll probably be 2-3000 words, and it's post-X3.

And soon, Yael and I are off to inspect Shaare Tefila's nursery school. ::shrug::

X3 question for fic

My memory is fuzzy, yo, but I could use some help:

At exactly what point in the movie do we see Rogue back at the mansion after getting the cure? What happens just before and after that scene between her and Bobby?

Thanks for your help!

TITLE: From Our Dissension
SUMMARY: Often both sides of an argument seem clear-cut to the participants.
DISCLAIMER: The X-Men and the X-Men movieverse belong to Marvel and Twentieth-Century Fox and other entities with expensive lawyers.
CONTINUITY/SPOILERS: X3 spoilers ahoy! Be aware, however, that in my version of X3, the Phoenix storyline *didn't* happen.
NOTES: This story is mscongeniality's fault, for giving me the idea while we were discussing the multitude of scenes missing from X3. Thanks to minisinoo and xandri for betareading.

More on X3

The more I think about it, the more I realize that if they'd simply done the mutant cure storyline, we'd have had a good X-Men movie. A nice heavy-handed metaphor, the chance for lots of impassioned speeches, and of course, some ass-kicking. It would have worked, damn it.

But they shoehorned so much in, there wasn't space for all the things that had to happen to make the cure plot work. Arg.

mscongeniality and I were talking this afternoon, and I think before I write denialfic, I'm going to have to write some missing scenes. 'Cause, dude, there are like thousands of scenes missing from just that one storyline! She knows which one I'm writing first, but I'll let it be a surprise for everyone else. ::grin::.

Spoilery stuffCollapse )

I know I had more things to say, but I think I'll go back to writing this missing scene, which is already flowing out of my brain. I need some denial icons, but I guess they'd all still be spoilery. Damn. When is it safe to cut for spoilersCollapse )

Slash goggles not needed and X3

Okay, so I tried to post the first part of this post earlier in the day, but failed. Then X3 happened. So that appears afterward. Clear?

The other day I picked up the new DC Universe novel, Inheritance, by Devin Grayson. I started to read it this morning, and I'm sure it will surprise no one who knows Devin's work that the slashiness is already overwhelming. ::coughs:: May I give you an example? On p. 46, Green Arrow, Arsenal, Nightwing, and Aquaman have just met up on the outskirts of Gotham, so we're getting a bit of an infodump about who they are. From Arsenal's POV:

"Works every time," Green Arrow said. Arsenal smiled and then dropped his eyes, suppressing the desire to add "not for me." Dick only responded that way to older men, and only if they were being deliberately unkind (or in Batman's case, chronically impassive). Arsenal couldn't think about it without instantly recognizing the complex relationship between Batman and Nightwing that made it so...

And it goes downhill from there. Or uphill if, like me, you bought the book for the amusement of seeing how much (not at all sub)text Devin would manage to cram into one book. Heh. This is gonna be fun!

Aaaaaand, X3. I'm so glad everybody could join me in laughing at watching the movie. Once I got over my hysteria at trying to gather everyone together, I had a great time. Thank you, folks, and I can't wait until we get together again :) I loved getting to geek out afterward and talk comics! wabbitseason, fire_and_a_rose, pleasance, and greenygal, it was especially good to meet you for the first time.

Now, on to the movie. Non-spoilery, I will say that I loved the parts I expected to love and rolled my eyes at the rest. This was a movie filled with individual wonderful bits, but no cohesive storyline. It was sort of like reading scans_daily, and trying to make it into a coherent plot ;) On to not-very-coherent spoilersCollapse )

I might have more coherent comments later when my brain stops racing around in circles like a small yippy dog.

Oh, and to those of you where were standing there when Avi announced that someone stole the Shavuot cheesecakes out of his parent's car: Turns out they had just slid under the seat. ::snickers madly:: His parents dropped by a few minutes ago to leave them. Heh. They were good too ;)

More coherence tomorrow, I hope. And maybe I'll start on some denialfic.

X3 and whining about DSL

Okay, I was going to do a poll about X3, but I realized it took more brainpower than I have right now. Sooooo...

Here's the list of current attendees. If you would like to join us on Sunday and you aren't on this list, let me know ASAP. My current assumption is that I'm getting an advance ticket for everyone. If this isn't true, let me know that!

Me
Avi
Drew
mscongeniality
thatpalebluedot
kitchendinah
wabbitseason
fire_and_a_rose
kiarda
Nate
smittywing
raisintorte
greenygal

It looks like they're running it on 2 screens, which gives us the option of either a 3:20 show or a 4:00 show. I'd rather the earlier show. Does anyone object?

And the second question is that of food. ::sigh:: Does anyone have a non-ethnic food suggestion (allergy issues and whatnot) that is more interesting than Ruby Tuesday's? We'll eat there if necessary, but I'm hoping for something better! kiarda? Any ideas?

Note to self: Check to make sure in-laws can watch the sproglet or else call Naomi!

DSL rant cut for utterly pointless whiningCollapse )

Yael fell asleep on my lap. ::frowns:: I suspect this is because she woke up at 6 am. I just hope this means she'll take a nice late nap after playgroup. This would make a happy mommy.

Oooh, while DSL is working, I must go send completed work back. Yikes! ::runs away::

X3 gathering

Okay, folks, the movie is approaching fast! kitchendinah reminded me that I haven't posted to propose my plan. So, without any further ado...

I propose that we gather the afternoon of Sunday, June 4 somewhere near the Regal Cinema Gallery Place, proceed to watch the 4:00 show, then find someplace (to be determined) nearby for dinner. The movie theatre is at 701 Seventh Street NW and is presumably near the Metro station.

Local folk who know more than I do, please feel free to chip in details here. On food, we have two requests for no Chinese food, and one of those requests is an allergy issue, so...yeah. I found this website that lists restaurants by Metro station.

Cafe Atlantico is supposed to be fabulous, but it also looks mighty expensive. ::sigh:: Hmm, we could always hop on the Metro and go somewhere nearby. For some reason, I'm craving Pizzeria Paradisio, but the place is too small for a large group. Any other suggestions?

If folks would like, I'll gladly buy advance tickets. Just let me know if you'll be coming and you can pay me when we gather. I'll probably buy the tickets a few days before, so you'll need to let me know by early in the week. It looks like tickets will be $7.50 plus a $1 service fee.

Song request and more on X3

Hey folks, does anyone have the Adam Sandler Hanukkah song, part 2? It's the one with Lenny Kravitz and Courtney Love making a funky bad ass Jew. blue_braces is looking for it (and heck, I wouldn't mind having a copy myself).

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

On the X3 outing, I really really like kitchendinah's suggestion of going to Gallery Place, because that's Metro-accessible and there are restaurants nearby. A lot of people voted for Virginia, but I'd like to avoid that if I can, so folks who voted for Virginia, how do you feel about Gallery Place?

Oh, and I gave opening weekend as an option and then Avi and I went off to see Peter and Stacy and now we've planned a big party for RL people that weekend, sooooo...Anyway, wabbitseason can't come that weekend and I want to meet her :D
