Users to Google: BUZZ OFF!

I've been following the Google Buzz fiasco, although I'm not sure if any of the gigantic problems apply to me. I have a Gmail account, but it's just my emergency backup and I'm not sure I've ever used it to send e-mail. Maybe?

Of course, I'm also one of the lucky people who doesn't care about anonymity, unlike many others, but I worry about anyone I might have contacted. I do have contacts in Google Wave and I don't necessarily want them linked together. For example: sweetgrinch under her real name plus a bunch of fandom people. sweetgrinch is not in fandom and she may not want her name associated with us crazy people ;)

I did immediately turn off Buzz, but I have no idea if that helped. I am very peeved with Google. What happened to doing no evil?

(If you'd like to read someone Missing The Point, head over to this CNN.com article. ::eyeroll::)

I had icky dreams last night and now I'm feeling weird. Ugh. I hate that. On the bright side, there's a small warm person sleeping on me. ::shrug::

I think I'm going to get dressed and walk to someplace like My Organic Market and get some juice and fruit. Getting out and getting some exercise would be the best cure, methinks.

Quick MS Word question

Something weird is happening lately in Word. I have automatic smart quotes turned off and if I need to insert smart quotes, I just use the shortcut keys. I've been using the same shortcut keys for years and they've always worked fine.

But suddenly...sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. In the same document, I can hit the shortcut keys for open double quotes several times in a row and they might work one out of three or four times.

This is incredibly annoying, let me tell you. I really don't want to turn smart quotes on, because I usually don't want them working and I'll forget to turn them off. Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

::falls over and dies::

I'm back from a 3-mile walk with a few other preschool moms. And that was a brisk walk, not a stroll. OMG, I think I'm going to die now. As soon as Avi and Yael get out of the shower, I'm going to go in and hope that helps, otherwise I might not be doing much walking today. And tomorrow will probably be quite painful, I suspect.

Amazing how a nasty pregnancy, a c-section, and blood loss will take it out of you ;)

Okay, the boy has eaten, so that gives me time to get dressed and whatnot. He'll probably be hungry again just as we get to the church for Anna's confirmation. Oh well. ::sigh:: Darn it, my shawl is at my in-law's house in the diaper bag. Rats. I just drove by their place, but I didn't think of it, or I could have snagged the bag.

Dude! Does the desktop software for the BlackBerry suck, or is it just me? ::scowls:: Well, at least we've figured out how to "invite" each other to items on our calendar, so hopefully there will be less confusion there. Now I just need to get in the habit of adding things to the BlackBerry instead of a paper calendar.
I can't believe it. In fact, I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but I'm now the owner of...seriously, I can't believe this...a Blackberry Storm. Yes, the woman who swore she didn't need a cell phone at all, now has a Crackberry. ::headdesk::

Avi needed a new phone, so we went to the Verizon store, where they had a deal that if you bought one Blackberry, you got another one free. I went out to the car to feed Barak and when I came back, I found that we both had Blackberr...um, is the plural of Blackberry "Blackberries" or "Blackberrys"? I mean, the fruit is "ies" but if the name of the company is Blackberry--

But I digress. Anyway, this is a mighty cool toy, but it's a leeetle bit much for my needs. However, I am hoping that we can use it to synch our calendars, thus spending less time double scheduling ourselves. It does have a cool touch screen, which is already winning me over :D

(For those who have our numbers, they are the same.)

We also bought Yael some adorable sundresses from Lands End at Sears. We have done our part to stimulate the economy, let me assure you.

Help?

Can the first two or three people who read this do me a quick favor and go check two webpages for me? I need to see if you can access them and what browser you're using. You see, neither page works for me in either Firefox or IE, but http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com swears the pages are functioning. Weird.

Anyway, the two pages are www.ahrq.gov/child/dvdobesity.htm and www.ahrq.gov/clinic/tp/chwghttp.htm.

Thanks in advance!

E-book readers

I'm considering asking Avi for an e-book reader for my birthday (since my in-laws are paying for our gala/Capitol Steps tickets), but I'm not sure. Does anybody have one? Does anybody have an recs or anti-recs? Are they worth the money?

What's the lowdown on proprietary formats? Which readers can take Word docs? Text docs? HTML docs? What kind of selection do the readers have in terms of non-bestsellers, since I don't read bestsellers? (It's very important that I be able to read books from Baen's e-book library, since most of my favorite writers write for Baen!)

I was thinking it might be nice to have an e-book reader in case I end up in the hospital again, but I have no idea if the darn things are ready for primetime. Please note: I have zero patience right now, so if a lot of fiddling is required, fuggedaboutit, I'll just bring the iPod.

Thanks in advance!

Right? It's so hard to believe she's that big, but she is.

She did an amazing job (as I knew she would). The only flaw was that she left her dvar torah at home and I had to rush to get it. But it…

OMG, how can she be old enough for her bat mitzvah???? (And what a great speech!)

I mean, I know that, were we Jewish, mine would be old enough in April, but wrapping my head around this is still…

THANK YOU! I've gone to services at Issac Agree before and they were both welcoming and a lot of fun. There is a mix of races there, as well. Again, thank you for letting me know all this!
