Big Bird's friend Mr. Arnold has some memories to share about Mr. Hooper.
I haven't had a chance to read many other remixes yet, but I was doing a quick scroll down the list of fandoms represented and was all "Oh boy oh boy, somebody wrote in that fandom! Oh wait...it was me." ::facepalm:: How quickly I forget.
I'm surprisingly pleased with my remix, actually. It's not even close to my most innovative remix, but I had a lot of fun with it and I think it has a little different twist than the original.
It's amusing that Remix went live, because yesterday Barak and I went to see Cinderella: The Remix at the local children's theater. Fabulous, I tell you. It's the third part in a hip hop trilogy retelling other stories in a hip hop 'verse. Cinderella takes place in Hip Hop Hollywood, where girls aren't allowed to DJ and fronting is a crime punished with a year in jail listening to Kenny G.
Lots of good jokes for grownups. The fairy godmother is Hoprah. My favorite gag is when J. Prince wins the First Annual Kanye West Modesty Award. The adults in the audience died and the kids gave us all strange looks.
There was a sort of secondary story going on about Cinderella's best friend, Chin Chilla, who is, well, a chinchilla. She gives a wonderful stirring speech about how chinchillas are third-class citizens in Hip Hop Hollywood and "did you know that chinchillas can't even drink out of the same water fountains as humans?"
That story isn't entirely resolved, which I thought was very clever, because the struggle for civil rights never is over, is it? You win one battle, even one war, and there's always another one waiting for you. So women can now DJ in Hip Hop Hollywood, but J. Prince and the others have just promised that they're going to help Chin Chilla...they haven't actually done anything yet.
Whew. I was panicking that I was going to have to default on this year's remix challenge, but at the last minute, I realized that the author had written in a small fandom that I could *totally* remix. (Not the one in my icon, may I add!) I matched with her on Marvel Cinematic Universe and she has a couple of stories in the fandom that I enjoy, but none of them inspired me.
A few hours ago I was ready to default and now I have 1,300 words and I think it only needs another 1,000 or so to be done. ::wipes brow:: I need to do a quick re-read of the fic to see if I'm missing anything important that I wanted to change. The original has some really adorable scenes before the end, but I don't think they're necessary for my version and I don't think I could do them better. I might rewrite the semi-public sex scene, though, just for laughs.
My Unconventional Courtship fic, on the other hand, has been done for quite a while and I'm so eager to post it, I asked the mod if I could move from a May 16 posting date to May 1. Happily, she said yes. I can't wait to post my 10,000 word crack :) There aren't many people who will get it at all, but the ones who do should find it amusing. Also, it amused the hell out of me to write, so it was totally worth it.
Okay, time to sleep. I can finish this fic tomorrow and post it and stop worrying.
John's secret is rather useful, as far as Sherlock is concerned.
This was a fun remix to write. Basically, I took Mad Maudlin's idea and really played around with how I would have Sherlock and John deal with it. I think we came to a very similar place but with radically different experiences. I love her story (go read it!) and I had a good time doing the same thing.
The only frustrating part was that in the writing of this, I found that John had something else he needed to talk about, but it didn't fit into this story. It didn't fit in terms of mood and it didn't fit in terms of plot. Well, that's not true. I could have made it fit, but then the result would have been very different, and not what I wanted to do at that moment.
I might get around to writing it someday.
And I still say you should go read the remix of Hate Can Pardon: Whom We Can Love, We Can Hate (The Words Are Futile Devices Mix), which was written by heddychaa, who did a fabulous job. She took my very spare story and gave it life and depth and background. Lovely.
BTW, this might be an opportune time for me to note that I welcome remixes of my stories at any time, not just during this challenge. I welcome sequels, remixes, and use of my original characters (or hell, my versions of canon characters), and I don't require you to ask my permission or get my approval of the finished product. Really. I think the greatest compliments I've ever received have been the people who wanted to borrow Great Aunt Ermintrude Fogg and Puck the cat.
Remix is so cool. Every year I'm floored by the way someone has taken one of my stories and made it so much more and so much better. (I need to get organized and go through my own remixes on AO3 and link them to the originals. I'm pretty sure they aren't right now.)
As I said to the anonymouse, I love the way the remixer has taken my one-dimensional characters and given them a background and personalities :) Really, this remix is awesome and you don't have to have read the original.
Now I just hope that my remixee likes what I did...
::bounces:: I don't know if it's a glitch or a sign that Remix is opening, but by going to my works page, I can see the title of the remix and I can see which of my fics has been remixed, but I can't see the actual remix!!! Want to read!
And worst of all, I need to leave to take Yael to a party and won't be home for hours!
But...they've remixed "Observed from the Surface"! I can't wait to see what they've done with Gladys!
Um, okay, that's enough exclamation points. There will be more bouncing about this when the remix is revealed.
I've narrowed my Remix story down to three possibilities. The easiest one is probably not the one I'll pick, because I've kind of done that story already. ::frowns:: I think I might actually do the shippy one, because it looks like the most fun, if not the easiest. And it's a ship I've only written, um, once before?
Now I just have, y'know, write it. I think I'll print the story out and mark it up, because that usually helps me figure out what tack I'm going to take.
Yael is taunting Barak with a pajama top. He find it amusing, but it's going to end in tears very soon. Like when he bites her in his excitement. ::wince:: Yael did that, I think, but I don't remember how we dealt with it.
I'm sad because Avi bought a fish to make ceviche, but he didn't make it and now it's too late to have it uncooked. It should still be okay cooked, though, but I kind of really wanted ceviche :(
Argl, the "tap to click" on my touchpad has turned on again and the function to turn it off is grayed out. I seem to recall that last time this happened (HATETAPTOCLICKKILLMAIMDESTROY), downloading an updated driver fixed it. ::runs off to do this quickly::
Extended Family (The Party Remix) [Firefly; Simon Tam/Kaylee Frye; G]--Kaylee and Zoe deal with a life change with their usual aplomb. The rest of Serenity's crew...doesn't.
The first was my original recipient and the second was my pinch hit :)
I had fun writing both of them and thanks to musesfool and the rest of the Remix team for a great challenge!
And let me remind you to go read the fabulous remix More of the Stars and Sea (The Three Meals Remix), remixing my SGA fic for the choc_fic chalenge. I still don't know who it's by, because they haven't logged on yet, but it's still fabulous :)
THANK YOU! I've gone to services at Issac Agree before and they were both welcoming and a lot of fun. There is a mix of races there, as well. Again, thank you for letting me know all this!
