HP funny

I just came close to falling off the couch. ::snort:: Cut for DH spoilerCollapse )

And on an unrelated, but nice, note, I've got another book coming to edit. The editor is one I've worked for before and she told me that the author of the last book (the music one that I freaked out about) was pleased with my edits. Go me! That's such a nice feeling.

I will be sorely disappointed in HP fandom if multiple people aren't writing the following stories:

Cut for Book 7 spoilersCollapse )

BTW, I'm not on any HP comms or anything, so I'm depending on you folks to find and rec these stories for me. Don't let me down! ;)

Oh, and one thing I found disappointing in the bookCollapse )

In other news, my dear darling husband has taken my carseat to work with him again. ::eyeroll:: I had intended to go to the grocery store, but never mind! Oh well, it wasn't that desperate, I just wanted to get a few things.

And my neighbors are playing the music so loud in their pickup truck that I can hear it inside my house, over the sound of the earphones in my ears. Grrr.

::collapses on the couch::

Last night we had dinner with Jeff and Rachel and they had an extra copy of The Book ;) I've just finished reading and I'm feeling a bit stunned and shell-shocked. Overall, I enjoyed it very much and while I have numerous quibbles, I don't feel let down.

I don't have anything to say that a dozen people haven't already said, so I probably won't post much about the book, although I'll probably comment on other folks' posts.

Oh, there might very well be spoilers in the comments, so don't read if you're not done reading yet, 'kay?

Now I must go do a little work. This morning I set up my mother's computer and boy, was that way more of a pain than it should have been. If my parents don't get high-speed, I think I'll cry.

I gave up and started reading spoilers. Don't worry, though, I shan't be commenting on them here until I get my hands on the book.

Anyway, for those who aren't reading, who are done reading, or who are interested in media portrayals of fanfic, the Washington Post has a remarkably good article on HP fanfiction in today's paper. It even quotes our very own heidi8! ::bounces up and down::

There are no spoilers whatsoever in the article, in case you're worried ;) But I think it's one of the better pieces on fanfic, for instance, acknowledging that there's a lot of bad fic out there, but there's also a great deal of it that's very very good.

Well, my two children are down for a nap, so I should go back to either cleaning or working. (Two children, you ask? You thought I only had one child, didn't you? Ah, but you weren't counting Avi. ::eyeroll::)

While we talk of fannish things

I'm sad and depressed and all-around cranky today, so I thought I'd distract myself by meandering on a few topics of interest to me, if not to others ;)

First, I've just finished re-reading HBP and sweetgrinch and I went to see OotP on Monday, so I wanted to talk about those a bit. Cut 'cause, oh, I don't know, people are so touchy that I'm afraid just saying Harry Potter will make someone think I've spoiled them! I will have a prediction or two, but I'm unspoiled.Collapse )

On a completely unrelated note, I've been reading a lot of Dr. Seuss to Yael lately and I'm being reminded of the fabulous values in the older kids' books. I mean, yeah, we read Hop on Pop sometimes, but she really loves Horton Hatches an Egg and Horton Hears a Who. And how wonderful are those books? "I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant is faithful, one hundred percent." And how can you not love "A person's a person, no matter how small."?

Of course, there's The Lorax which has the clearest and strongest ecological message ever. And how about "The Big Brag", part of Yertle the Turtle and other stories? OMG, I love that story so much! (If you haven't read it, you should.) Another one of the Yertle stories is "Gertrude McFuzz", which is a lovely little story about realizing that you don't have to look like everyone else to be beautiful. In fact, it's specifically a story about how ridiculous the search for beauty can be!

Well, there was more I wanted to say, but I need to get organized for Funfit. At least my tranquilizers have kicked in enough that I'm no longer actually panicky. Hooray for having a therapy appointment this afternoon...

Oh and passing on a warning

Anyone who's on the hufflepuff comm, watch out, because there are gigantic type spoilers posted there, because apparently somebody wants to be annoying. Take the list off your flist if you don't want to be spoiled.

::eyeroll:: Seriously, people, why? I don't get it. Anyway, I hope that HP folks who don't want to be spoiled can remain unspoiled!

Right? It's so hard to believe she's that big, but she is.

She did an amazing job (as I knew she would). The only flaw was that she left her dvar torah at home and I had to rush to get it. But it…

THANK YOU! I've gone to services at Issac Agree before and they were both welcoming and a lot of fun. There is a mix of races there, as well. Again, thank you for letting me know all this!
