Let's Get Talking [27 Dec 2012|08:20pm]

We'll head into 2013 as leaders of the league. But there's still a long way to go of course. Last season, we were 8 points clear at one point but that went downhill in a few weeks.

So what do you think of our season so far? Can win make it #20?

What about our chances in Europe? How far do you see us going?

Who is our best player so far this season? Most improved? Worst player?

Who do you want to see in our team when the transfer window opens next week?

QPR want £5m Berbatov [01 Aug 2012|07:35pm]

museandme
Queens Park Rangers are preparing an offer for Dimitar Berbatov as they continue the comprehensive revamp of a squad that evaded relegation narrowly last season.

Manchester United have valued the former Bulgaria forward at £5million after taking up the option in February to extend his contract by one season until next summer. Berbatov, 31, has indicated that he wants to leave Old Trafford for regular first-team opportunities, having started five of his 12 league games last term.

Galatasaray yesterday ruled out a bid for the striker, but QPR are keen to add Berbatov to the seven players who have arrived this summer.

They include Andrew Johnson, who is considered a reserve behind fellow strikers Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse.

I want him gone but not for 5mil. But I guess we won't be getting any more than that...

Manchester United plays for dollars in US IPO [03 Jul 2012|06:36pm]
lightframes
NEW YORK (AFP) - Storied British football club Manchester United filed papers in the United States Tuesday to raise money by selling shares on the US market.

In the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Britain's all-time top Premier League team said it would raise up to $100 million in the initial public offering.

The team, controlled since 2005 by the Glazer family, billionaire US sports investors, has struggled in recent years with heavy debts despite what is arguably the world's strongest global fan base for a football club.

"We intend to use all of our net proceeds from this offering to reduce our indebtedness," the IPO prospectus said.

Manchester United sign Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra. [18 Jun 2012|02:30pm]

• 'It really is a dream come true,' says Powell

Nick Powell

Manchester United have completed the signing of the England Under-18 international Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra on a four-year deal.

United have been monitoring Powell for some time and have beaten off interest from Everton to sign him. The Premier League runners-up have confirmed the youngster has passed a medical and will join at the beginning of next month.

"We have scouted Nick for months now," said the United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. "He is an exceptional talent and has been schooled well at Crewe. I'm delighted he has chosen to come to United. He has a lot to offer and we are all looking forward to working with him."

Powell, an attacking midfielder, is likely to fill the void created by Paul Pogba's imminent exit for Juventus.

"It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United," he said. "I have had a great time at Crewe and would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years."

Powell is the second midfielder signed by United this month, following the arrival of the Japan international Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund

With Pogba almost definitely leaving for Juventus and Morrison having left in January, we're not that well stocked in young midfield talent any-more. Therefore I'm fairly happy with Powell's signing but I don't expect him to be anything other then a bit player for next season. Hopefully he'll be able to learn from Giggs and Scholes in what will probably be their last season.

Aston Villa 'in talks' with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer [18 May 2012|11:38am]

denorios
Aston Villa are talking to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about taking over as their new manager, according to the former Manchester United striker's club Molde.

Villa are looking for a replacement for Alex McLeish, who was sacked on Monday after 11 months in charge.

BBC Midlands has been told Solskjaer is on the private jet of Villa owner Randy Lerner heading to Birmingham.

Solskjaer, 39, has been boss of Molde since November 2010, guiding to them to their first ever Norwegian title.

A statement on Molde's website read: "Molde Football Club is aware of interest and contact from Aston Villa, and is aware that Aston Villa and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are holding talks."

After retiring from playing in 2008, he spent two and a half years in charge of United's reserve team.

Solskjaer then returned to his native Norway and led Molde to their title in his debut season.

He is one year into a four-year contract and could look forward to Champions League football next season if he remained at Molde.

He became a cult hero at Old Trafford where he made 366 appearances, scoring 126 goals in 11 seasons famously scoring an injury-time winner in United's dramatic Champions League victory in 1999.

So what do we think? I for one am really excited by this. I love Ole, love him desperately, and I would love to see him one day managing United. But he's not there yet, he needs experience at a bigger club than Molde, and Premier League experience too.

If he makes a success at Villa, he can see him taking over from Fergie in a few years. And that would be the kind of appointment that would work - he understands United, loves the club, understands the culture and the history and the style of play, and the fans adore him.
