Optimum biologically and economically utilization level of fishery resources should be determined... more Optimum biologically and economically utilization level of fishery resources should be determined earlier in order to avoid it from over-exploitation. This issue is crucial, because currently many valuable fishery resources are extinctly in danger as a consequence of over-fishing. The objective of this research is to determine bio-economic equilibrium of Skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) resource in Banda Sea. Data were collected by interviews using questionnaire, and analyzed using Gordon-Schaefer's method combined with Fox Algoritm. The results showed that biological equilibrium (MSY) of Skipjack in Banda Sea and the waters surrounding attained at annual production capacity of 30.954,65 ton, with optimum efforts level (E MSY ) of 21,251 trips per annum. Meanwhile, the maximum economic yields (MEY) was attained at efforts level of 20,431 trips per annum with production size ((h EMY ) was 32.905,91 ton per annum. Economical equilibrium was produced at open access condition with efforts level of 40.862 trips per annum and production of 4.889.98 ton per annum. Optimum utilization of lower biological and economical pressures was at efforts level of 20.431 trips per annum and production size was 32.905,91 ton per annum.

Ukuran layak tangkap dan dinamika temporal ikan cakalang sesuai perubahan musim merupakan informa... more Ukuran layak tangkap dan dinamika temporal ikan cakalang sesuai perubahan musim merupakan informasi penting untuk kepentingan pemanfaatan secara berkelanjutan sumberdaya cakalang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukan ukuran layak tangkap serta dinamika temporal ikan cakalang di Laut Banda dan sekitarnya Provinsi Maluku. Sampel diperoleh dari hasil tangkapan kapal-kapal pancing tangan (hand line), pole and line dan pukat cincin (purse seine) yang berpangkalan di Kota Ambon dan Kabupaten Maluku Tengah dari Oktober 2011-September 2012. Kategori layak tangkap ditentukan berdasarkan ukuran panjang saat pertama kali matang gonad. Dinamika temporal diketahui melalui analisis struktur populasi yang dihubungkan dengan analisis tingkat kematangan gonad menurut perubahan musim. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ukuran layak tangkap ikan cakalang di Laut Banda dan sekitarnya adalah >58 cm. Dominasi ikan cakalang layak tangkap sepanjang tahun berbeda dari satu musim ke musim lainnya. Ukuran layak tangkap tertinggi pada musim timur (Juni-Agustus) 52,99%, diikuti musim pancaroba ke dua (September-November) 30,63%, musim barat (Desember-Pebruari) 24,22%, dan terendah pada musim pancaroba pertama (Maret-Mei) 21,48%. Secara temporal pemijahan terjadi pada musim timur sampai awal musim barat (Desember) dengan puncak pemijahan pada musim timur di daerah lepas pantai. Anakan ikan cakalang hasil pemijahan mulai masuk kembali ke wilayah pesisir pada ukuran >20 cm. Ikan-ikan ini hidup dan membesar sampai ukuran 37-45 cm organ reproduksinya mulai terbentuk dan memijah pertama pada ukuran 57,8 cm. Pada ukuran ini ikan cakalang diduga berusia dua tahun. Berdasarkan dugaan usia secara temporal maupun ukuran layak tangkap, maka pemanfaatan berkelanjutan dapat dicapai apabila penangkapan ikan cakalang dilakukan pada musim timur hingga awal musim barat, yaitu saat ikan tersebut mencapai ukuran layak tangkap atau secara biologi telah melakukan pemijahan paling kurang satu kali dalam siklus hidupnya.

Poverty of fisherman community is a complex problem due to the inability to access the available ... more Poverty of fisherman community is a complex problem due to the inability to access the available natural resources. Several factors, i.e lack of education, skills, and capital, also the limited accessibility of natural resources lead the fisherman to become a marginalized group. One of the most important fisherman community in East Indonesia located in the Inner-side of Ambon Bay (IAB), Ambon City. However, the characteristics of this fisherman community is still slightly understood. This research aimed to describe the socio-economic condition and characteristics of fishermen in IAB. The result showed that fishermen of IAB categorized as commercial fisherman, which utilize their catch for commercial purpose instead of personal daily consumption. Based on the enterprise scale, the IAB fishermen categorized as small scale and artisanal with low utilization of technology, while on education level, 90.2% of the fishermen graduated from high school. Average income of fishermen in IAB was rather high, in fact 68,63% of the fisherman has income > Rp. 3.000.000.-/month. Based on this result, we concluded that fisherman of IAB is not categorized as poor, low social level, and marginalized community.
