Malta is no exception. Financial pressures, keeping up with international advances, maintaining standards and changing patterns of lifelong learning are driving the education institutions to adopt online modes of communication, interaction and education. As expected, these changes can also be evidenced in the healthcare education sector. This inevitably brings with it a drive towards innovative modalities of interaction, carrying out research and in the pedagogy of teaching and learning. The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has forced educators individually, and educational institutio... more The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has forced educators individually, and educational institutions collectively, to rethink their teaching and assessment modes. Several universities have seen a sudden shift from traditional face to face teaching and learning to online approaches. The aim of this case study is to share the authors’ experience in the design, coordination, delivery and evaluation of a fully online post-registration programme. Now in its twelfth year, this is an interdisciplinary course and caters for qualified health professionals from various sectors and with various levels of experience seeking a baccalaureate qualification. The paper uses the SWOT analysis technique to highlight the programme’s strengths and weaknesses, and to reflect on its opportunities for, and threats to, further development. The COVID-19 pandemic brought online learning to the forefront of education across the globe. Edu... more The COVID-19 pandemic brought online learning to the forefront of education across the globe. Educational institutions were forced to develop and deliver online programmes of study at a manner and pace that left many unprepared. A year and a half into the pandemic, the need for review and evaluation of swiftly developed online programmes is clearly indicated. This paper presents the process of developing a toolkit for evaluating online programmes by academics from the six partners of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) project. The toolkit provides a user-friendly guide for educators, managers and stakeholders in the education field, seeking to assess the quality of online programmes. The toolkit development process is extensively described in order to highlight its potential and the usefulness of collaborative work amongst international academic partners.
