Sunday Night Post

 Hobbit Archers

Painting continues on more hobbits and ruffians. For the next scenario 'The Burning of Woody End' both sides have over twenty minis! And finally the hobbit archers make an appearance. So, a few need to be painted before I can proceed.

Back to Oldhammer

I picked up this Mouth of Sauron mini at Colours last year and I have finally decided it is time to put some paint on this mini. There is a ton of detail and I still need to work out a paint scheme.

A  New Pic of Radagast

Radagast fleeing a giant spider or two.

Its Not Friday Night

But I still need (deserve?)a beer after painting a few more hobbits.

Finishing a Project

Radagast Done

Radagast was the last mini to be painted in order to complete the 'Escape from Goblin Town' box set. And so completes this project.

A couple of finished shots of Radagast.

More Ruffians

Finished off the first of my new ruffians, to boost Sharkey's bullies and rogues. Ready for the next battle.

And Because it is Friday Night

Painting the many Shades of Brown

Almost Ready to Return to the Shire

Most of my painting time has been applying the many different browns to Radagast. But he is now nearly finished! And I can return to my Shire campaign. However, need some more ruffians, hobbits and scenery before I can play the next 'official' scenarios.

Sharkey's Henchman

Traitor from Isengard

Before I can play the next scenario 'The Death of Lotho', I need a mini to represent Worm, I do have a Grima mini, that I painted about twenty years ago.  But also had a 'spare' one in the lead pile so decided I it was time to paint up up a new one. As I am not really a fan of the Worm sculpt from GW, but I am quite happy with the Grima mini.

By this stage of the Lord of the Rings - Grima (Worm) has been having a really bad time after being kicked out of Isengard. So, I wanted my mini to look like Grima had fallen on hard times. With plenty of dirt and distressing on his clothes. Which I simulated with light dotted lines along the wear lines of the clothes.

Photo Update - 01 Mar 2025

I like this photo better.

Work also progresses on painting up Radagast, I still need to get more different browns to stop him, looking like he has been painted with one pot of paint!

Accident & Emergency at Orcs Drift

 Ferndale Snart & Beli

As always there is a fox about town.

Second one from my occasional (grand) plan to complete the Orcs Drift scenario with 80/90s figures. This  time the druid Ferndale Snart and Beli (Dwarven patient suffering from shell shock). I have chosen the excellent Druid from the Talisman range. Again this is a figure I got as a birthday present back in the 80s , lost and rebought a couple of years ago (there seems to be a theme developing here...). The other connection is that this is a figure design based on a drawing by Gary Chalk.

Gary Chalk - Ferndale at Orcs Drift

The original Gary Chalk Talisman Druid drawing

Ferndale is a druid, hired to carry out medical duties for the army of the Grand Alliance but has a drink problem (this seemed Ok in the 80s). But this is probably a nod to the film Zulu with Jack Hawkins's character Otto Witt - the dunkard priest.  He provides the heavy duty magical support for the beleaguered defenders of Orcs Drift but this comes with a price as he is trying to get his patients away to safety during the course of the scenario and is a pacifist. So only has defensive spells.

Fae Army Started - Druid (155 pts)

First Miniature Finished - Druid (155 pts WFB 3rd Ed.)

As planned, I wanted to paint up one of Mark Copplestone's Ex-Grenadier Wood Elf druids as a army leader and to try out colour schemes. I didn't want the normal greens and healthy skin tones. So went for a muted colours except for the greenery which I have tried to make as vibrant as possible.

As I am using the undead army list he will have the profile of a level 15 Necromancer. This character whom I am naming as Ash is Leader of the Fae from the Darkling Wood.

I wasn't sure when I bought the Skull set at Christmas as £17 seemed quite lot to spend on non-figures but I have ended putting them on nearly everything. But perhaps having Chaos and Undead armies helps!

Not quite sure how I am going to use the stone circle but I thought it fitted with the theme very well and make a nice scenic piece.

Duel No.2 Part 1 - Clash of Wizardry

 Classic AD&D Magic User

Finished the high level Magic User character  from the Citadel ADD1 AD&D Magic User set as part of my Duel mini-projects. Yellow always seems to be a bit of tricky colour but I like the look with the blue robes. Heavily kitted out with wands, scrolls and magical trinkets. Ready to take on Bugbears to Trolls.  Now on the the lone Wolf Vordak mini.

Ready for Old School Dungeon Action

Magic Missiles ready!
