Advent 25 - Day 24 : Phew! Made It

Just Get to Grandma's House

So, Glenda has finally made it to grandma’s house, but grandma is clearly not at home. And now she must confront the big, bad wolf. Never one to back away from a fight especially when grandma's in peril, Glenda steps up to face the wolf.

However, the big, bad wolf has form and promptly eats Glenda.

Oh well, I guess I will just have to chalk this one up as a win for the bad guys. 😟

Snuck off of a crafty hour this morning to paint up Grandma? And of course a team photo*.

*Just realised that I forgot the ghost. No time now!

Well another advent challenge completed and now time for a lunchtime Christmas beer.

But before that I also found a bit of time last night to start working on some of my other projects.

A couple more Roman gangers done.

And a few more bits stuck on an ork dreadnought.

And of course Merry Christmas to everyone 😁

More Scrap Dreads & Show Booty

 Fun Times at Colours

Work continues on two scrapheap ork dreadnoughts and I may build a third one as I have enough parts. But I probably should finish the first two...

I managed to get to Colours at Newbury races today and picked up a few things. Like last year there were some bargains to be had - a copy of War of the Ring for a tenner on the B&B and twelve dwarf miners for £12 from Black Tree designs. They were billed as retirement stock so this might the last chance to get them. I would still like to take another go at Blood Bath at Orcs Drift. And these miners have a nice Oldhammer vibe.

More pictures to follow of the tremendous Battle of the Five Armies and my go at 'Here's the Ruckus'

The other thing that caught my eye but didn't buy (Doh!) was Hairfoot Jousting which only needs six minis to play. Fortunately, a friend of my has a copy, so I will have a go at putting together a team or two.

Back to the Dread Mob

Time for Another Scrapheap Challenge

After putting together an ork mega-attack dreadnought last year, I decided he needed a bit of company. So, I have started on at least one more smaller dreadnought. As before, the is aim to make these dreadnought(s) using only bits 'found' from around the house or existing gaming stuff.

Taking inspiration from the original ork dreadnought, I thought it would be fun to add a goblin 'pilot' sticking out the top.

Thanks - Stuff of Legends

Starting the Year with an Ork Dreadnought

Happy New Year

In case you had forgotten 😟.

Big Tinz - The Mega Onslaughter Dreadnought Done

Painted the dreadnought in the same speed painting method as the orks i.e. contrast paints and dry brushing. I couldn't quite remember how I painted the bases so it was a bit of a guess, but my best estimate was Blood Angels red Contrast paint then dry brushed with Bugman's Glow and finished with some light blue and gold minerals. Proving it is a good idea to write this stuff down.

The orks storm the mining settlement with Big Tinz taking the lead.

Some poor unfortunate get pinched.

I enjoy creating different basing schemes for my armies and the idea for the space orks was a mining world. Something suitably different from the usual green and earth bases.

I think Big Tinz might need a little brother and Dread Mobz has a nice ring to it. And of course I need to get these Rogue Trader space marines painted so he can have something to shot at.

Advent Wrap Up

Last Advent Mini Painted*

So, I have painted all of the Advent minis, build the dungeon tiles and managed a couple of games. I still need to work through the last couple of scenarios but thoughts turn to the next projects. I still have plenty of in progress stuff.

*Still minus the wings but they will turn up.

Now I have a bit of time to work on the ork dreadnought. Painted him red obviously and started on the usual wear and tear.

And as I start to think about projects for next year, one project springs to mind, finish the wood elves. My 1000pt wood elf army has been in progress for a couple of years and actually has relatively few minis left to paint. I am actually about 80% done, so a shortish push to get them finished and they could be easily done by early next year.

But then I might get distracted by other shiny stuff...

Advent Day 14 - Your Move Geoff...

Now up to Date with the Painting

The haul so far*. A second endurance dice set meant I only had one mini to paint which was a gnome with axe. And now I caught up with the Advent paining, I can now think about playing some of the scenarios. It also means I had a bit of time this afternoon to work on some of my other projects.

*There are some stands for the doors but I am using my scratch built scenery.

I also able finish of the last Amazon to complete the Diehard set from the Kickstarter. Who are now ready to join the Slann war party.

After I undercoated the dread now known as 'The Big Tinz'. He sat on the side-lines while focused on the Advent minis.  However while working on the other stuff.  I decided that he needed a bit more detail. It was kind of hard to see before he was undercoated because of the different parts and colours. But anyway, I stuck on a load of bolts in proper orky fashion.

Was shopping today and picked up the latest copy of Miniature Wargames, mainly because of the 'free' minis. I have no real idea why I want them but I thought they could be useful if I get round to playing Five Parsecs from Home or Stargrave.

Advent day 2 - Two for Two

Plus a Mega Onslaughter Attack Dreadnought

Managed to paint the gobbo from day 2 of the advent calendar and went back and re-worked the gnome from yesterday. I painted in the eyes and decided to give him a green and red colour scheme. so, added in some green.

Mega Onslaughter Attack Dreadnought

Finished off the ork dread and since he is much bigger than the Super Onslaughter Attack dreadnought then he must be a Mega Onslaughter Attack Dreadnought!

Ready for a spot of paint.

Dakka Dakka & Now Snippy Snippy

Looking Like A Proper Ork Dreadnought

Adding the pincers has really changed the look of the dreadnought and now makes it look right (at least in my head!). Just the rocket launcher to go.

Now on to the beer.

Dakka Dakka

First of the Big Guns

A big dread needs a big gun, so I added and autocannon and started  work on a rocket launcher. At the moment it looks a bit over the place but I am hoping once I add some more detailing and a base colour. It will start to pull together.

Ork Dreadnought Started

How Many Paint Lids Does it Take to Make a Dreadnought?

Four* apparently when I am making one! This week, my random projects continues. This has been on the 'To Do' list for several years but this year I actually do round to starting the ork dreadnought. Now many people have showcased their scratch built ork dreadnoughts and this one is no different.

I am inspired to build an original Rogue Trader style dreadnought with four arms. Known as the Super Attack Onslaughter Dreadnought. Obviously arms still to do, loads of detailing and a ton of rivets to give it the right look. But the basic shape is now in place.

*Two old Citadel ones for the top and bottom and two different Humbrol ones for the middle and the very top bit.

Back in WD100, Ork dreadnoughts came in two varieties:  two and four armed variants. I had a couple of two armed dreads but no four armed monster. So, this one has got to be the four armed type. I particularly like the pincer claws so my dread has got to have a pair of them.

While the diagram shows a heavy plasma gun and a lascannon, this doesn't feel very orky as you can't shout 'Dakka Dakka' as you watch a enemy quietly melt from a plasma gun blast. So, my dread will have at least one heavy shooter and probably a few missiles. As who doesn't love a few fireworks.

One of the 'proper' ones from Suber at Old School Workshop Super Attack Onslaughter Dreadnought

This is going to a cheapside project with all of the bits coming from the bits box, the garage and a few odd bits of Lego.

Dreadhead

 Not Quite Dreadtober

I while I definitely do have a dreadnought that I want to paint up, I am not really ready for Dreadtober this time around.  I have too many other projects that I want to focus on at the moment. But maybe later in the month.

At least one more go through the paint stripper. Particularly for the body section.

While imperial dreadnoughts were in the Rogue Trader rulebook, dreadnoughts really came to life in WD100. With a 14 page article by Rick Priestley and shiny new Eldar dreadnought models. Including some really cool pictures of dreads in action.

I had plenty of dreadnoughts in my Eldar army, including 'Green Peace' my Banshee class dreadnought. While the paintjob on the dreadnought wasn't particularly special, I did paint up a pair of banners which I was very proud with a howling sun design. Unfortunately I don't have any better pictures (or the dreadnought!) of this mini.

But when I get around to painting the replacement Banshee, there will be a definite nod to the original.
