Axes of the Dwarves

And a Goblin Banner

It started with needing to make a goblin banner and then moving on to make a few more dwarves. I decided to move away from paper banners, so have been collecting various foils from around the house.  Which sort of led to making a few capes for a couple of dwarves who then of course needed the green stuff adding.

The dwarves are sort of a slow burn project, to be done when I feel like a change.

I am experimenting what small changes I can make to give them a bit of variety. Like some quick armour panels.

This guy has a bit of dragon scale or troll skin armour?

And a quick group shot.

Armies of Evil

Finished the Necromancer & Started on Some Goblins

So, I managed to get some sessions in this week and finished off Vonatar the necromancer, evil villain and poster boy of the second Lone Wolf gamebook - Fire on the Water. After deciding to paint him up using the  paint scheme in Gary Chalk's drawing, I decided he would need a base to match. i.e. wooden decking of a death hulk. This proved to be a bit more complicated than I was planning because he is mounted on a solid base and I had to shave down the planks to fit around him and sit nicely around his robes. However, once started you got finish. Now I still need to make a 40mm base for him but since the 20mm is the deck of a ship then 40mm one will have to be the same...

Anyway, attention for the moment has turned to finishing a group of 20 goblins for my Midgard armies project. Now, these minis are mix of Oldhammer C13 goblins, Oakbound ones from the 2024 calendar and a few other randoms.

Since I enjoyed the first pack, I bought some more for a Friday nights entertainment.

It was a Wintery Day

 New Bases for the Dryads

Work continues on the rebasing and tidy up of the dryads to bring them into line with the winter elves ready for Midgard.  When I originally painted the dryads, I added a couple of scenic elements to the multi bases add some interest. These have now been transferred and updated.

Dryads for Midgard

 25mm Ish

After a bit of debate, I decided that the dryads would get a bit of a refresh and new bases. In part it was because when I put the dryads together,  I used hand cut card bases and I wasn't exactly accurate with the sizing. So, now when I attempt to fit them into the movement trays they don't really fit. And it is just going to be easier to transfer them to new MDF ones. Especially as I want to theme the bases in the same way as the elves.

The dryads will each get a quick wash and a 10 minute highlight.

First of the tidied up and rebased dryads.

After an inspection of the fridge, I found a number of Christmas beers lurking at the back of the fridge. So, this is a situation easily remedied.

Most of the Elven / Fae Midgard Army Done

Basing & Other Stuff for Midgard

One of the things about sorting out my elves and Fae for Midgard, has pushed me to finish off a few minis including this Warmonger elf sorceress. Who hung around after the 1000 point winter themed wild elf army. And now I am actually quite pleased with the result.

Finished off the first batch of over twenty movement trays  and now I will have to wait for Beachhead in a couple of week to get some more. However, still plenty to do with more major rebasing activity ongoing with the Fae to align them with the winter themed wild elves.

I have decided that the smaller Fae
will be used as skirmishers in Midgard.

High Elf Army In Glorious August Sunshine

 Much Better

After struggling to get any decent pictures the other day. I took the photo board outside yesterday and used natural light to photograph the army and it worked much better.

Second Elf Army Done in Two Months!

 High Elves Done

Got the last couple of high elves done this week, to finish off the core '1000 pts' army. I still need to add the banner to the standard bearer once I find my copy of the 3rd Citadel compendium.

I didn't like the pictures I took this evening so I have used the ones form an earlier set and will try again later. The lighting just wasn't right.

Monday Night Progress & 'Lost' Photos

First of the Frostgrave Minis

Technically some of these new Slann slaves are armed with the wrong weapons (supposed to be hand weapons and shields) but there are some nice options with the Frostgrave sprue so I went with looking good. The first of the completed Frostgrave models pushes the unit count up to ten and with five more left to do.

Izcoatl the Blesser of Water, leads the slaves against some pirates.

Whilst backing up an old hard drive, I found some more pictures of my old Slann army. Unfortunately they are the ones I took when I put them on eBay (circa 2006)  but still better than nothing. With a few more on the way.
