We’re gearing up for an exciting Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia (WCAsia) 2026, set to take place this month in the vibrant city of Mumbai, India! This annual gathering of WordPress enthusiasts brings together a diverse group of contributors to collaborate, learn, and significantly impact the WordPress project. 

Here’s a sneak peek at what we have planned for the Photos Team and how you can get involved.

March 2026 stats for the WordPress Photo Directory

It has been almost two years since our last update. 2025 has been an incredible year for the WordPress Photo Directory. We crossed two major milestones, 20.000 and 30.000 photos, reflecting the steady growth of our global community.

Over that time, many new contributors have joined the directory, bringing fresh perspectives and diverse visual stories. Community initiatives such as the WordPress Photo Festival 2024, 2025 Share Your Pride Photo Drive, Summer Photo Festival, several Contributor Days (as part of WordCamps and WordPress Meetups) and Photo Walks have also played a key role in encouraging participation and accelerating contributions.

These milestones are not just numbers; they represent the collective effort of contributors, moderators, and developers (@otto42 and @coffee2code) who continue to build and maintain the directory. Thank you to everyone who made 2025 such a remarkable year.

Photo directory team meeting agenda for December 6, 2024

The Photo Directory Team holds meetings on the first Friday every month. For this month, meeting is set to take place on December 6.

Announcing the New WordPress Photo Directory Team Representatives

Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate and vote for your next Photo Directory team representatives! Your participation plays a vital role in shaping the future of the Photo Directory project.

We are excited to announce the three newly elected team representatives for the upcoming term:

  • Nilo Velez
  • Bigul Malayi
  • Michele Butcher-Jones

Each of these individuals brings a unique set of skills, passion, and commitment to the project, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on the Photo Directory. Their leadership will help guide the team toward continued growth and success.

Here’s a look at the final voting results:

Nilo Velez leads with 30.56% (55 votes), followed by Bigul Malayi with 25.56% (46 votes), and Michele Butcher-Jones with 15.00% (27 votes). Other candidates include Sam Alderson (13.33%, 24 votes), Roy Tanck (12.22%, 22 votes), and Gale Wallace (3.33%, 6 votes). Total votes: 180.
  • Nilo Velez received 30.56% of the vote with 55 total votes.
  • Bigul Malayi followed with 25.56%, gathering 46 votes.
  • Michele Butcher-Jones rounded out the top three with 15.00%, receiving 27 votes.

The current representatives would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Photo Directory community. It has been a privilege to serve as your representatives, and we are confident the new team will carry the torch forward with great energy and enthusiasm. We will continue to be around to help usher in the new representatives and ensure a smooth transition.

Photo Directory Team Rep Announcement Moved to October 4th

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your enthusiasm and participation in the recent vote for our new team representatives. We were excited to announce the results during WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Photo Directory Team Reps 2024: Submit your Votes!

In August, after 2.5 years of the current Photo Directory representatives holding their positions, the team opened up nominations for just the second time. The poll is now open and ready for your vote.

You can vote for up to two people at the same time. Once you have submitted your vote, you won’t be able to vote again.

To see what team reps are responsible for, see the previous post calling for Photo Directory Team Rep nominations. For now the Photo Directory Team anticipates electing two or three team reps. Of course, team reps can decide to add additional people as team reps, during the course of the year.

This poll will be open until Friday, September 13, 2024, after which team reps will be selected based on the votes received.
