Thanks for joining me again for a Friday newsletter packed with ideas and insights to help you on your merry way. This week - self-talk - design thinking - the language of learning. Let's get into it.

Grappling with the realities of negative self-talk is an important personal development concept for most of us. Here is a great little set of articles exploring the concepts. The posts include 4 Ways to Stop Beating Yourself Up, Once and For AllThe Voice of Reason and Make Your Self-Talk Work for You. I have struggled against over rumination and negative self-talk for most of my working life - learning more about what is happening is a great step to help address such behaviour. I hope you find the links useful.
Since finishing teaching a Design Thinking undergraduate course this semester I am already back into using the process in some projects. I am currently working with Monash Health on a great little collaboration that supports early childhood educators here in Victoria. I am looking forward to perhaps sharing more information with you in the future about this one. Next week in Melbourne I am teaming up with Chris Harte again for some work with Google for Education at their Forward event. It sees us facilitating a group of education leaders through a design thinking process in a few hours. Should be fun!

This week I was in Sydney again with a partner school in Daceyville. I have been working with St Michael's Catholic Primary School for over a year now. We have concluded a long period of development around their framework for learning - a statement to the world about what learning is focused on at St Michael's. Now is the time to make the framework part of daily life for students and teachers. I know from experience that one of the key strategies for shaping cultural change is sharing a common language. Habitual language use is one of the simplest, cheapest and most repeatable steps we can take on our journey.

Why is a shared language important for you? How does a shared lexicon of learning make a difference in your setting?

Hit reply - I would love to hear from you <<First Name>>.

Have a great weekend and see you next time for more deep fried insights!
