Thanks goodness summer's over!  It's been a very hot season all round this year.  On checking the Bureau of Meteorology, I came across the following data:

"Perth Metro's mean daily maximum temperature for summer 2012-13 was 32.3°C, which is the hottest summer at Perth Metro since records commenced in 1897, exceeding the previous record of 32.0°C set in the summers of 2010-11, 2009-10, and 1977-78.  Daily maxima at Perth Metro during summer ranged from a mild 23.6°C on 7 December to a very hot 42.1°C on 31 December. Perth Metro recorded 21 days with daily maximum temperature of 37°C or higher in summer 2012-13, the highest number on record.

Perth Metro's mean daily minimum temperature for summer 2012-13 was 18.8°C, which is well above the average of 17.5°C. Daily minima at Perth Metro ranged from a cool 9.4°C on 7 December to a hot 27.3°C recorded on both 29 December 2012 and 15 January 2013."

Generally, March still has some hot days, but at least there will be less and less of them. The real season change is usually around Easter, and that's just one month away. Soon, I'll be complaining that it's too cold! :) :)

At the moment, it's 26°C.  Very pleasant.  It's cloudy and we've even had a touch of rain.

It's been a while since I've updated my journal. I've had a cold over the last week, so I've not had too much enthusiasm to do much at all! Isn't it amazing, when you think how nice it would be to have a day home from work, but when you do because you're sick, you can't really appreciate it! I could have posted this group of pictures, but I just couldn't be bothered at the time!

Anyway, here they are now!

Last weekend, Laurie and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary by staying the night in a hotel in the city. After we checked in, we went for a walk that first took us over a bridge over the freeway.

We carried on up the aptly-named Mount Street.

I promised to post pictures that I took at the fireworks display on Friday night.  I'd set the camera on night photography, not realising that it would create time exposure.  (I didn't have my glasses with me to check the quality of the pictures as I was taking them, otherwise this wouldn't have happened.)

However, I was quite amazed at the effects that appeared in the photos when I uploaded them to my computer.

For your entertainment....

This last one was taken of the burning barges, way across on the other side of the river.  The blue lights were from the police emergency services.  Reminds me of colourful seahorses!

I'm quite amazed at how much movement there is in these pictures!  So much for "still" photography!

Well, Australia Day's been and gone.  What a day!  It was scorching hot, with a maximum temperature of 41.2C.

We walked from our hotel, moving fast through the sunny bits, and slower through the shade.  The last stretch across the bare, shadeless Langley Park seemed further than it was.   Thank goodness for hats and sunscreen!  We eventually reached the trees and glorious shade!

There were already quite a few people there, but not as many as would usually be expected.  I'm not surprised, because of the heat.  We watched boats moving in convoy to an area set aside in the river for those wishing to watch the fireworks from that vantage point.

This area would have lots of people gathered on it later (after sunset).  At this time, no one was willing to stand out in the baking sun!

I shall post more pictures later that look rather...interesting.  I had mistakenly set the camera to night photography.  This caused it to take pictures with a short period of time exposure, resulting in some rather original-looking pictures!
