Here is a comment I made in LJ comm, 1word1day, 4/1/26:
I have had CFS/M.E. for decades and it destroyed my life. Our worldwide community has sought to discredit the snarky misnomer, "Yuppie Flu." Even calling this fatigue, or depression, is incorrect. During crashes or relapses, it is more like alzheimers plus parapalegia, making the victim more disabled than those suffering from more acknowledged, respected and funded disabilities. CFS has one of the highest suicide rates compared to other wide scale chronic illnesses. Depression is not a part of this illness, per se. Low functioning mitochondria is. Depression can follow from lack of social interaction and support, and a deprivation of personal life goals. Constant isolation, but when seen in public, able to walk and talk, people assume the victim is healthy, ergo lying, ergo a bum. A silly, entitled slacker.

This is sadly ironic because CFS does tend to hit ambitious over-achievers. So, it is absolutely devastating and humiliating. But it also hits people who have had major traumas in the past and/or present, including abuse, accidents, EBV or CMV, emotional loss, etc. And, many victims seem also to be rather sensitive. Their drive blows a fuse more easily, or they care too much. And they end up, often, being mocked or forgotten by society, even by most doctors. In my experience, some doctors find that denying it is a nice way to prop up their professional egos. And many victims have said that the only doctors who really appreciate its reality and severity, are doctors who themselves suffer, or have suffered, from the illness. A similar illness, long COVID, gets much more cred.

And imagine trying to rally or motivate, CFS victims in support groups, for self-help, or to fight the stigma, ignorance and lack of funding.. How can you make activists out of people whos mitochondria can not muster, and all they want is to sleep and rest and sleep and rest? These people need help, and respect, and faithful patience — moral support. Especially since their nerves and feelings are frayed, and they are so sensitive to external stimuli. Yuppies, they are not.

This comment by no means intends any vitriol or disrespect to you. Id rather the subject be raised and discussed than be ignored. Take care.

I've enjoyed what I've read so far ... Your longer poems remind me of Coleridge (the images, language, mood/atmosphere etc) — you're an intelligent writer because you know words and how to bend them. See the pewter raindrop scoff upon the walk,
See the autumn limb clench against a winter wind
Hear the march of nematodes beneath forgotten logs:
All the world's a lot of bluff and blunder -
Nothing more than worm and wonder.

Green our Beltane days of melting acrimony.
Green the gunning sky before a twister's raid.
Green the garlic mustard, bastardizing snow and Sunday.
The moss sleeps deep in thought and thunder.
All the world is worm and wonder.

Keep the leaves, brown, abounding for the tricksters,
Stir the twigs and dusty rot into a pool of muck and moil,
Heap the past, the past consuming, up into a mound of dearth,
And feed the teeming creatures soiling under.
We're lucky we're not caught in worm and wonder.

My lady danced upon a silver marble block,
Feathers in her hair, and red rose petals at her feet,
Underneath a sun-light dome and solar-powered clock,
Singing sweet, whilst came the word of oil and plunder.
A world away of worm and wonder.

We plant a spade, a garden tea, all the more for victory,
But wherefore is my boyhood roam, my winding panoply,
Where ants were lords and snakes great dragons of the sea?
The land awaits its endless turn asunder.
Grey the mind of worm and wonder.

See the pitch upon this lightly frosted forest glade.
See the life-infested humus slightly heave and roll.
Hear the march of nematodes beneath forgiving blades:
Lay me in the heart of waste, to ponder
