The Tower of Hanoi is a tool used to evaluate executive functions. However, few studies describe ... more The Tower of Hanoi is a tool used to evaluate executive functions. However, few studies describe what functions are evaluated in this test. This study investigates the executive functions, evaluated by the Tower of Hanoi (ToH), and the influence of gender, age and its relationship with intelligence. We evaluated 55 children and adolescents, between the ages of ten and 16, without diagnosed neuropsychiatric disorders. The results showed that the performance and time in to complete the Tower of Hanoi have no discriminative power when comparing age groups and sex; there was also no significant correlation found between the ToH and the execution quotient of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Third Edition (WISC III), perceptual organization and the speed of processing. Only the subtest coding were positively related to the ToH, demonstrating that these instruments may be measuring related aspects of intelligence and executive functions, namely intelligence and working memory.

The study investigated, in a longitudinal cohort, predictive models of arithmetic competence (AC)... more The study investigated, in a longitudinal cohort, predictive models of arithmetic competence (AC) in the 1st year from language and executive functions assessed at preschool age. A total of 71 children were evaluated in oral language skills, preliminary writing abilities and executive functions. In the 1st year, the children were also evaluated in AC. Parents provided information on the socioeconomic level and teachers indicated children with difficulties. Language, oral (phonological awareness and vocabulary) and preliminary writing (knowledge of letters, reading and writing of words) abilities, together with indications of difficulty by the teacher in the ECE, were able to explain a mean of 62% of the variability in AC in the 1st year. The findings reveal predictive variables for the performance in arithmetic in the initial stage of Elementary Education, which can assist in early identification and the design of preventive intervention models.

Considering the importance of the functional assessment, a scale was developed to evaluate Execut... more Considering the importance of the functional assessment, a scale was developed to evaluate Executive Functions (EFs), State Regulation (SR) and Delay Aversion (DA) in adults, based on a children’s scale, and evidence of content validity was investigated. In Phase 1, items from the children’s version were adapted to generate the Inventory of Difficulties in Executive Functions, Regulation and Delay Aversion for Adults (IFERA-II), with 28 items of EFs (inhibition, working memory and flexibility), RS and DA. Analysis by judges verified the representativeness of the contents of the items. After adaptations, 18 adult participants responded to the IFERA-II and were interviewed regarding comprehension, need for examples and clarity of vocabulary. A new revision led to the preliminary version of the IFERA-II, the psychometric properties of which should be investigated.

Resumo Este artigo apresenta parte de uma investigação sobre o processo de apropriação da língua ... more Resumo Este artigo apresenta parte de uma investigação sobre o processo de apropriação da língua portuguesa escrita por crianças surdas, sinalizantes de Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras), e busca descrever os seus dizeres e analisar as produções induzidas durante a pesquisa. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva e de cunho exploratório. Participaram seis colaboradores que cursavam a Educação Infantil e os anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental em uma escola de surdos. Foram utilizadas entrevistas e atividades realizadas a partir da contação de uma história em Libras. Nessas atividades, as crianças escreveram palavras, textos, completaram histórias, criaram personagens e fizeram desenhos. As entrevistas, realizadas em Libras, foram gravadas em vídeo, traduzidas e textualizadas na língua portuguesa escrita. Deste modo, algumas habilidades podem participar de ambos os processos; outras, porem, podem prover contribuicoes unicas a cada um deles. O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar quais habilidades, dentre as de linguagem oral e memoria de trabalho, controlando o efeito da idade e da inteligencia nao-verbal, melhor podem predizer o reconhecimento de palavras e a compreensao de leitura. RESUMO – A escrita é uma habilidade complexa e essencial para a inserção social. A partir do refe... more RESUMO – A escrita é uma habilidade complexa e essencial para a inserção social. A partir do referencial teórico da psicologia cognitiva e da neuropsicologia, destacam-se três componentes da escrita, a saber, ortografia, grafia e produção textual. Para que haja um processo de avaliação adequado, é necessário compreender o construto e seus componentes fundamentais, bem como conhecer os instrumentos de avaliação disponíveis. Este estudo objetivou fazer uma revisão da literatura sobre os instrumentos de avaliação da escrita a partir de pesquisas nacionais (2009-2014), identificando quais componentes tais instrumentos avaliam. Utilizaram-se as bases BVS-Psi, PEPSIC e SciELO. Segundo os critérios estabelecidos, selecionaram-se 95 artigos. Houve predomínio de publicações em periódicos de fonoaudiologia, psicopedagogia, educação e psicologia.
