Old Skool Modpack Finally Released!

⋆。‧˚ʚ🍭Luvstar’s Old Skool ~ Nostalgia and Cuteness🍭ɞ˚‧。⋆

10 months ago, I started a let’s play called “Old Skool Minecraft” inspired by some of my favorite old Minecraft mods, not knowing just how special the entire thing would become! The modpack, the texture packs, the world, and the series itself quickly became one of my absolute favorites I ever made.

The modpack

The modpack includes some classic and nostalgic Minecraft mods, including my personal favorite mod of all time… More Creeps and Weirdos! (Well, the revival version of the mod, since the modpack is on version 1.12.2) There’s also Mo’ Creatures, Mr Crayfish’s Furniture, Butterfly Mod, and Delicious Delights! The last two definitely add a bit of cuteness to the world. :3 There’s also a few other minor mods in there, mostly quality of life and some that tweak the game to make it feel more “old school,” like Beta Days. This is actually the smallest modpack I’ve ever made, with only 12 mods added (not including dependencies.) But with just the handful of mods that change gameplay, they REALLY do make an impact. The world feels uniquely distinct from vanilla in every way, and there is just SO many things you can do, especially with just Mo’ Creatures and More Creeps and Weirdos alone.

The texture packs

I started the series playing with the wonderful texture pack called Cardcaptor Sakura Custom Pack – a kawaii and colorful themed texture pack based on the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. Then I switched over to High on Sugar for a while, before eventually returning to Cardcaptor. High on Sugar was a really fun texture pack to play with. It’s a CLASSIC! I used it all the time when I was a kid, back when I first got Minecraft on the computer! The last update for High on Sugar was for 1.9, but it still works on 1.12.2! It turns the world into a super sugary sweet, colorful light and pink dreamy landscape. But for many, the sugar overload within the textures can be a little much, and admittedly it’s hard to play with this texture pack on a regular basis. So I switched back to Cardcaptor Sakura and it actually made me nostalgic for the early days of the let’s play and world. I really love Cardcaptor because it’s just the right amount of cuteness and color, but not too over the top. Plus, the best feature is arguably the beautiful rainbow that floats around in the skybox! Also, I use the Cute Cat Hotbar texture pack when playing with Cardcaptor, just for a little extra cuteness. Cause cats are the cutest.

The Series

A while into the let’s play, I decided to start streaming me playing on the world, which brought a lot of new viewers into the Old Skool world. My let’s play also wasn’t performing that well to begin with, so I actually decided to switch the series over to be a stream-exclusive “let’s play” but with the ability to interact with everyone live, chatting with my community and experiencing everything live together, it made the series so much more fun. I’m really glad I made that decision and kept the let’s play going to this day! It’s so much fun to experience everything the modpack has to offer with my community. I love how chill and relaxing most of the gameplay is, which lets me chat with everyone easily. But there are occasions where things get REALLY CRAZY, which tends to happen when you have mods like Mo’ Creatures and MCAW installed. It makes for some serously hilarious moments!

Releasing the modpack!

With all that being said, I finally put up the Old Skool modpack for download on CurseForge! It took me a long time to release it, but I feel like now there’s a lot of people who would want to try it out for themselves! So, feel free to install it for yourself and play Minecraft the old skool way! You can play it through the CurseForge app, or install the files and add it to your own launcher. I personally play all my modpacks through MultiMC. Anyway, I hope you love the Old Skool modpack as much as I do. Enjoy! :3
