Movie Night! 'The Suicide Squad' (2021) & 'Godzilla vs Kong' (2021)

By the end of yesterday, I was more than ready for the weekend... Not a bad week at work but as ever, loads to do and only one of me to do it all before my leave next week. Oh well, I did what I could and I'm pretty sure that I haven't left anything that can't wait until I get back (fingers crossed...) I wasn't in any real state for reading though but that was ok as I went to see 'The Suicide Squad' last night and followed it up with 'Godzilla vs Kong', over breakfast, this morning. Both films were just what the Doctor ordered, albeit for very different reasons. Okay... Both of them were filled with explosions but apart from that.. ;o) Which film should I start things off with? 'Godzilla vs. Kong' I'm starting off with 'Godzilla vs. Kong' as although it is a lot of fun to watch, it's also lightweight to the point where it would float off in a stiff breeze. It doesn't give you a lot to write about but you know what? That...

'Gotham Central: In the Line of Duty' – Rucka, Brubaker & Lark (DC)

I don't know about you but as much as I love to read about mighty heroes ('super' or otherwise) and wrathful gods, I have the most fun reading about the little guy who lives in the shadow of the aforementioned. You know what I'm talking about, the armies of nameless soldiers fighting so that others can reap the rewards, the... it's mainly soldiers really, isn't it? Or people trying to uphold some form of justice. All of which leads me onto this first entry in an occasional re-read of the 'Gotham Central' books (I say 'occasional', I've only got the first two trades at the moment, had to get rid of the rest, a long time ago, and now I need to wait until next payday before finding the books again). Because what's more heroic than a regular...

Appropo of completely nothing, I've got to say that I'm pretty pleased with this review. Not because I've said anything particularly profound about the book in question (or anything profound at all actually) but this review marks the first time in a few weeks that I've beaten anxiety, a bit of depression and some work stress in order to be able to actually sit down and read a book... Go me! It's a shame then that the book itself was... Hang on, I'll come back to that in a moment. I've been a bit of a fan of the whole idea of novelisations of comic books, ever since I bought copies of 'The Death of Superman' and 'Knightfall' and pretty much read them to death during my first year at college (then I found where the comic book store was in Northampton and the rest as they say...) I've read a few more since then, my personal highlight was finding the 'Deadpool' novelisation, so 'The Killing Joke' novelisation pretty...
