Dear Yuletide Writer 2022
Hello, and thank you for writing for me! All prompts are suggestions; I want you to have fun more than anything, so if you have an idea that doesn't match any of the ones below, please, go wild! I would much rather read something you enjoyed making than something you forced yourself to create to fulfill some arbitrary conditions and hated the whole time.
I am lorata on AO3 and my sign-up page is here.
FANDOMS:
The Checquy Files - Daniel O'Malley
I Want to Go Home - Gordon Korman
Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir
Teixcalaan Series - Arkady Martine
Things I love:
friendship, loyalty, found family, competence, spaceships, swords, all kinds of relationships (platonic, familial, romantic, hostile, in between), complicated people, aftermath & healing of trauma, what happens After, denouement, missing scenes, backstory, character exploration, characters who know each other ridiculously well
Things to skip: rape, sexual violence/assault, targeted/sexualized/gendered/punitive violence, drowning, humiliation/second-hand embarrassment, first-person pregnancy, body horror, hardcore PWP
For AUs: my rule of thumb is making things MORE fantastic (in space! with magic! add dragons!) is fun, but taking things away (coffeeshop, college, no magic, etc) is less interesting. No Hogwarts, please.
Prompts and optional details under the cut.
Fandom: The Checquy Files
Characters: Ingrid Woodhouse, Myfanwy Thomas
Prompts:
Any kind of canon-related shenanigans, case-fic, Myfanwy and Ingrid confronting a problem with bureaucracy, whatever! PLEASE feel free to lean into the weird. More of OG Myfanwy's binder entries could also be a really fun way to do this.
My OTP is Shantay/Myfanwy, so for Ingrid and Myfanwy I would prefer gen, but I won't say no if you are inspired to write a romance!
Fandom-specific DNWs: body horror, AUs
re: body horror: This fandom can get WEIRD and I embrace the weird! but body horror specifically skeeves me out. Would not have enjoyed reading a scene from inside the flesh-house in canon, for example.
re- AUs: This universe is practically a character in itself so I would like this one to stay here
Fandom: I Want to Go Home
Characters: Mike Webster, Rudy Miller
Prompts:
Mike and Rudy return to camp over the years? ... as counsellors? Mike and Rudy in university? 5 Times fic could be really fun ("5 Things Rudy Didn't Do and 1 He Did"? lol OK that was unintentionally filthy but you know what I mean). Gen or romance, either works with me, I just love their dynamic.
Additionally, I would read them in pretty much any AU because they're so ridiculous I feel like they could exist anywhere.
Fandom-specific DNWs: drowning, Hogwarts AU
re: drowning -- added as an extra note just because it IS camp and near-drowning DOES happen and I DO see it as a potential sexy/romantic moment but I would respectfully request not for me
Fandom: Project Hail Mary
Characters: CHOICE: Ryland Grace, Rocky, Worldbuilding
Prompts:
I would love anything about the early years on Adrian; Ryland adjusting and dealing with homesickness / realization he's never going home and how his friendship with Rocky helps pull him through; other friends Ryland makes on Adrian; Rocky's family.
For worldbuilding: more scenes with improving communication and fluency; more science hijinks and ridiculousness; missing scenes from canon; life on Adrian in general
Or, if you'd like more on the pain and suffering end: POV of Rocky before he meets Ryland during the years he's alone
Fandom-specific DNWs: worldbuilding that focuses on Earth during the climate crisis / near future we-nuked-the-arctic everyone-at-war famine-and-starvation years
Fandom: Teixcalaan Series
Characters: CHOICE: Nine Hibiscus, Twenty Cicada, Twelve Azalea
Nine Hibiscus and Twenty Cicada (Platonic between these two, please)
Prompts: Backstory! They're SO CLOSE and have SO much history! I'd love to see it. Alternatively: Nine Hibiscus learning to communicate with Swarm as We, working through her grief and denial and coming to accept them, the two finding some kind of equilibrium (heh!).
One thing I'm NOT interested in is Swarm realizing they made a mistake and disconnecting from the We. I really prefer, narratively speaking, to respect his choice and have the story grow with that.
Twelve Azalea
Prompts: Petal :( :( :( :( Backstory with the resistance, his sacrifice writ as an epic poem as he deserves, an AU where he doesn't bleed to death on the floor, whatever you want to do with him, I just ... ngah. I need more of him.
Bonus: All 3
Was there a time the three ever met, at some point in the past? Some gala somewhere? Was it terrible? Did they commiserate over bad poetry and canapes while hiding from an irritating ambassador? Who knows!
Fandom-specific DNWs: body horror
re: body horror -- if you explore the We, I'd prefer it not get into it from that aspect
