The battle in the temple storeroom I'm playing a mashup of  Scarlet Heroes  and  Basic Fantasy RPG  with a few supplements to turn it into a solo fantasy hexcrawl in the world of Eilobar, a doomed land entering its end times. I'm using the  Level 0 Character Tumbler , Hexcrawl Adventures, Mythic GME 2nd Edition and some homebrew rules. The characters started as level 0 peasants and have since levelled up to become heroes. Introduction The party are exploring the demonic temple built by beastmen close to the town of Seethorpe, while the dwarven scholar Thiri researches the strange symbol they keep finding in monster lairs. The Adventure After finding an empty box in the relic chamber the heroes look to door in the western wall. It opens into a rectangular room with eight stone slabs, rough blankets on top of them. There are several crudely made wooden cabinets containing herbs and primitive medicines, and the floor is covered in straw which seems to hav...

Introduction Last time the party met with Thiri the dwarven scholar in Seethorpe and gave him the goblin king's amulet with its strage sigil. He was certain it was the symbol of a powerfully evil creature related to the Nine Kings of Hell, and sent them looking for clues in the demonic temple near the town. The Adventure Stilda, Cyna, Bryne and Ellyn set off on horseback into the hills northeast of Seethorpe. They spend an uneventful day travelling, but along the way Bryne warns the others, "I've read about the Three Scourges in books you know. I don't think you should...

Introduction Life has got in the way of my solo RPG gaming this year but I've finally found time to return to the world of Eilobar. As a recap: In an era long after the fabled Age of Heroes, peasants Stilda, Cyna and Bryne decided to fight back against the monsters that were plagueing their village, Keyham. They slew Mothric, the local goblin dungeonmaster along with a goblin king who had taken another nearby village. Both were in possession of a mysterious rune. Yormath, the wizard of Keyham didn't recognise this rune but suuggested they show his old friend Thiri, a d...

The Wretched

Image
Introduction It's been a while since I played a journalling RPG ( Thousand Year Old Vampire last summer) so I thought I'd finally try out The Wretched by Chris Bissette. I got it in a bundle on itch.io but the thing that always stopped me from trying it out was that it needs what Bisette carefully calls a "tumbling block tower" - he means Jenga. I thought it was a weird idea to design a game that relied on you owning a whole other game first, but just recently I noticed he has a link  in the rulebook explaining how to simulate the odds of a Jenga tower and how likely it is to fall. All you need is a hundred D6s. Luckily we've got Tabletop Simulator so I can easily spawn in that many dice. To take a block from the tower you simply roll all the dice and remove any that come up as ones. You do that each time you're told to remove a block, and eventually you'll lose all your dice, sending the tower crashing down. My slightly wonky grid of dice You also need ...

Introduction The heroes have almost reached Seethorpe where they hope to speak to the dwarven scholar Thiri, but disease, combat and the death of one of their own have slowed them down. The Adventure It's the morning of the 25th day of Rhana's Season and the sun is already long up when the party sets off southwest, skirting around the edge of the mountains that block their path to Seethorpe. In the daylight they can see that the mountain range continues to the southwest, still blocking their way. They really don't want to travel through the mountains, so they go back the way they came, hoping...

I'm using the  Level 0 Character Tumbler , Hexcrawl Adventures and some homebrew rules. The characters started as level 0 peasants and have since levelled up to become heroes. Introduction The party are getting closer to the town of Seethorpe now, but they're low on supplies, one bedroll short and two of them are about to come down with a nasty disease. The Adventure After travelling through the hills for the rest of the day the heroes make camp. Stilda congratulates Bando on his performance in the fight against the rats and says he could make a fine warrior one day. They settle down to sleep, but Ellyn wakes up in the early morning, shivering. She gets up, staggers away from the remains of the fire and vomits furiously into the undergrowth. Waking up and seeing th...

Introduction Stilda, Cyna and Bryne are on their way to the town of Seethorpe to meet the dwarven scholar Thiri so they can ask him about the strange rune they've found in two unconnected monster lairs. Along the way they've recruited two potential heroes: Ellyn, a maidservant and Bando, a retired mariner. They're also escorting a lost noblewoman named Lady Eudocia Gerd. She was heading to Seethorpe to buy a painting from a famous artist there but got separated from her guide in the swamp. The Adventure The party makes camp in the swamp after the encounter with the pit vipers. For some reason...
